There is almost always a way around these things, whether it's a person spawn camping in an fps or a button masher/skill spammer in a fighting game, there's usually a way. The only exception I can think of was Licence to Kill mode on Goldeneye N64, putting Proximity Mines on all the spawn points. Perhaps these WvW jumping puzzles too, I haven't seen them yet. But in this case, why on Earth do you have 5 Risen on you at the same time? The only time I see groups of that many are during events, in which case, well, watch out.
I think I am probably spoiled for escapes, being an Elementalist. Heals too. There must be ways though, besides your profession-specific skills, starting with spacial awareness and aggro field ranges. Even as an Ele I've been caught out a couple of times - perma-stunned and death, but it was my own fault for lalala-ing along like I was invincible.
As an engie, my solution is quite simple. I get pulled to the guy, I switch over to my bomb kit and I kill the 2 or 3 or 4 guys attacking me, before they can kill me. So at least engies don't have a problem in Orr, though I do die sometimes...just because I'm tired, or not paying attention. When I'm on my game, I can solo Orr pretty easily, with the exception of champions, of course.
Main issue I have with Orr is the location of POI, Vistas and Skill points in areas that are flooded with Veteran mobs and crazy respawn times, by the time I have killed 1 vets 2 have respawn with a bunch of associates knock you down, spit on you, stomp on you and you have to take it because you cant do a darn thing

Spacial awareness doesn't help if during a fight with one four others spawn right beside me because-
1- respawn rates are very fast.
and 2- there's no proximity rule for spawning, so enemies can literally spawn right on top of you.
And you seriously don't see groups of that many around Orr? The enemies are quite numerous. And some classes like ranger require you to move around during a fight, so with enemies spaced so closely you aggro more. Yet I can't not move around, that's how my build/class works. To kite and keep a distance from my enemy.
And maybe an event did start on top of me, and suddenly I was surrounded. Or even during an event I'm aware of. I could be with a group of five but six or so risen aggro on me and me alone, knock me down over and over, and I die. Again, there wasn't much I could have done after using up my stamina and stability skill.
I tend to see this with gw2, where when someone complains about a mechanic they think is broken others just say you're not skilled enough or you're doing this wrong. Sometimes it is true, and I learn something. But this is a complaint I really can't see a proper strategy for... maybe for one class or another, but again that's flawed and imbalanced.

Well I think the devs did say that Orr is not really solo designed. You can try to solo it but you will have a hard time. So ad hoc groups and friends (at least 1) can make a huge difference if your class has trouble soloing in Orr due to class design.
I haven't been in Orr in weeks so maybe my memory is fuzzy...Im going to pop in there today after work and see whats up.

What class do you play?
Im starting to think elementalists are OP...which is quite the twist.
I play a Ranger and a warrior. I dont know how to play an elementalist, I started one and delete it when it reached 20

As a ranger, I'd use a long bow, instead of a short bow, for one thing. And I'd be real careful with melee in Orr, because your skills do move you around alot, as you've said.
The short bow has one skill that shoots you backwards, and if you hit it accidentally, the odds are you've aggroed someone else. However, with a longbow, I've had better luck.
