Thread: How I feel about Orr, what about you?

  1. #51
I've gradually warmed to Orr but it still isn't my favorite. I think I like it better now that I only play there 10-20 minutes a day.

My biggest problem is the wild variety and uncertainty in difficulty. There are some spots where I can solo events, and others where just walking through the area unawares can get you pounded.

I have yet to do a dungeon. I joined a guild finally and hope to start running them once in a while. Wanted some good gear and to know how to play the game before I did dungeons. Also want my Melandru set first. Plenty to do in the end game IMO. It's all about building up my character and at 80 the only way to do that is gear. I think in an expansion I'd like to see some skills/traits that you have to choose and can't change to give more of a uniqueness to your character.

To me this isn't a challenge, it's a flaw in the game mechanics. If I have five enemies around me, and one knocks me down, and then before I can get up another knocks me down, and this continues until I'm dead? That's not a "challenge" or fun, there was nothing I could do. I couldn't dodge, I couldn't run. I feel if you've been knocked down, there should be 2 seconds after you get up that you're immune to any other knock downs or pulls. This would allow you to escape or get your footing again.

Any time a game presents you with a problem for which there is no solution, to me that's broken.
To me, it adds to the immersion. In real life, you are not going to have 4 or 5 people jump you and wait for you to recover between attacks. They are going to pound you down. If no one comes to help, you die. Yes, I find it annoying to be grabbed when running or swimming and yanked around, but I don't call it broken. I call it Orr. I know it happens, and I prepare for it. I gear appropriately, grab friends/guildies/zergballs, and go through Orr as I would any hostile territory. Because that is what it is, and is meant to be. Hostile territory. If I have to solo, I zoom my view out to max, constantly look ahead, around, behind. I move like every step could trigger a mine or an alarm. And I have been farming nodes in Orr since I was level 68. Solo.

Find another route. My husband and I, 100%'ing Malchor's Leap, had one skill challange we tried for over an hour to get to. Then we started working our way around the map, and came in behind and above it. No veterans, no champions there. Just a few normal level monsters. and the monsters on the way to it, on our second path, were spaced further apart and that made them easier to kill. That is part of the challenge, for us, to find our way around the obstacles. Don't hesitate to try new utilities, new weapon combinations, and such. Often, experimenting like that ends up showing you a whole new way to play.

Also I dont know what is exotic that synergize, dunno what are superior runes or how to get them and dont know what are sigils either, I have not seen any of those or have any drop of those items.
How long have you been playing, again? Money=gold in this context, and if you farm, loot, sell on the trading post, and sell to vendors, you have money for this. I've seen plenty of sigils, runes, and more drop. If you are in a guild, they are usually more than happy to help you understand what to do with your gear. On the web, all it takes is searching this site, the various posts devoted to your chosen classes, to get ideas on what to do.

If you want to play a game where everything is handed to you, there are a lot out there. We don't mind helping, when asked specific questions, but we really don't want to play your game for you. We have our own to enjoy.

I love the difficulty level of Orr but I hate how often things go invulnerable because there is some stupid 2 inch ridge between the mob and myself. I also hate the fact I can be knocked off a cliff but the mobs can't.

They took time to make the terrain so complicated and include all of these jumping puzzles but they ruined it by making you have to stand next to a mob to fight it instead of using terrain to your advantage.

You can gear up however you want, though.
Pretty much this ^. The level 80 gear grind can be done in 3.5 ways. 1 is karma grinding and then buying from the gods' statues in Orr. 2 is to grind materials and craft. 3 is to grind tokens from explorable dungeons. The .5 is that you can continue any of these using the mystic forge, by grinding more stuff.

It's like WoW in the sense that you get to 80 and you have to grind. The significant difference though, is that you have multiple ways of doing it that are very different and you can do the one you enjoy most.

Oh yeah. I always play MMOs as though PvP doesn't exist. At some point I need to give it a try.

    I am Eala's husband.

Orr really taught me how to run my toon, what my various utilities do, what combinations work the best with what, tactics, and more. The only thing I do not like about Orr is visual variety of monsters, however, the story explains that.

One person somewhere up there said that, as a Ranger, he had trouble surviving. I do great. Flat out. Usually I go in with my wife but occasionally I go there to just kill things and push myself.

I have a set up that I can adapt specifically for Orr. If that Ranger is still reading, PM me and I will offer suggestions?

So basically at level 80 this is another grindfest?
If you call buying exotics rather cheaply off the trading post a level 80 grindfest, then ... yes. Or crafting it yourself then...yes. Or running dungeons for it ... yes. More than gear though it appears you don't know what to do with your build. Get that down and greens and rares are plenty to manage Orr with, though exotics do give you a little extra breathing room.

I'm Eala's hunky boy toy. Whatever you guys do, don't let her husband find out about me. He has a temper.
