building a gaming laptop? or just bite the bullet and go back to PC

Ok I have a HP 17inch that will play the game but overheat drastically. I am sure the graphics card was not made for gaming and I hear HP's are bad about overheating.

I have looked over the past week at different laptops and yes I know I can't play at high end with a laptop but I just saw someone say unless you have $2k you won't be able to play on laptop?

Can you custom build one for less? I guess if I really have to I can build a PC but I don't want one that has red gaming stuff on the case.

Ideally I would like to spend $700ish. I have a monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. My old PC is too old to just upgrade it I am sure.

I really like how GW2 has features in the game and want to play but it seems like laptop maybe out of the question. My daughter has a new acer with 6g ram and 4000 Intel graphics card and it plays her MS game wonderfully but I get laggy and choppy blue screen on it....besides its her laptop not mine. It doesn't run hot though like the HP!

    Thanks in advance.

I do have a friend who can build me a PC.

Thats not going to play the game and be enjoyable. Building a PC is your best bet in that price range. I'll list a few builds the more $ you spend the better it will play the first one is the least I would buy, it will run the game good but strugle some in WVW as even very high end PC's do. Add your 64 bit operating system of choice but I still recomend windows 7. You will need to reuse your power supply cord for each it will just pull out the back of it.
$500 plus the operating system http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mLzF
More $ use everything listed but sub for these for better performance.

Really this will run everything the best it will run and ready to overclock for the WVW performance will just stomp on the cyberpower build a LT is not made for gaming unless you spend almost 2x that. With a SSD

That doesn't seem like a bad deal. I was playing the game OK at 1366x768 on this i5/GT330M laptop until I bought my new desktop system.

BTW, have you checked the fans on your current laptop? My old laptop used to overheat playing games until I removed the dust that was clogging the fans.

Personal opinion: Keep the laptop, Clean it!!! Laptops get dust stuck in them, they can really use a spraying from some compressed air once in a while. i3+HD 3000 isnt unbearable. I would check for latest and greatest drivers.

    Next, build a PC.

For $1100 you can build a really nice desktop that maxes this game and many others. Now youll have a gaming desktop, and a laptop too for on-the-go. Why trash a semi-recent laptop before its time to go?

So... if you like the idea of building a desktop how much would you want to spend? Hint: $700 or more haha.

Ok true I can keep laptop for non-gaming. My brother has it right now trying to clean it. Alright I will get my friend who used to own a gaming store help me build a PC! Thanks all!

Intel i5 + Best GFX card you can afford. Easy to pick
don't overspend on motherboard (no more than $100)
If you have extra dough, save it for gaming peripherals, headset, mouse, keyboards
