Thread: building a gaming laptop? or just bite the bullet and go back to PC

It's your $ and your choice but I would really recomend the overclocking CPU over anything else for gaming, for sure this game.

Just noticed no operating system with the tiger one either.

Friend that used to own gaming store has windows 7.

Here is a review from the tiger one: SLI Perfect
EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB GDDR5 Video Card

I tested this on Guild Wars 2 and Battlefield 3 at max settings. Guild Wars 2 has consistent 100-140 fps and Battlefield 3 runs from 90-120 fps in combat. No lag at all. Well worth getting two of these for SLI. Great Price and no need to use the superclock in SLI.

Based on that review and the fact I probably got 20fps I am thinking this built will be more then enough for me!

I had to LOL at this

Do some gaming and see good luck with that the video card is not the problem the CPU is, I have mine overclocked to 4.4 Ghz with 16GB of 2133 memory and a 6970 @ 950/1425 and I get 35/45 FPS in WvW zergs with a lot of people. Also my video card without the overclock is better than that one.

If you run a stock CPU you will get nothing near my performance. But it's your money. Enjoy life

No one building their first computer should be considering SLI or Overclocking in my opinion

Stick with the 670, not two cards in SLi. You want to run 30FPS or more.
it does not take an incredibly impressive computer to run gw2. This thread went from $700 laptop to up up and away!!!
    Get back to the basics.

Its a mid range gamer for a non gamer price, and actually came with a 610 rather than the 520 (didn't cost me anything extra, its just what it came with)... not that a 520 would be bad for GW2, since it only requires a ye old 7800.

.....Never let modern day travesties harm the memory of greatness.

I haven't had a chance to try proper gameplay on my new PC yet, but I've been getting around 60fps running around Lions Arch on a single GTX660 at 1920x1080 with most things maxed. Think I had to turn reflections down to get it up to that level and I've always had supersampling off.

the 660 and 670 are both great values for the price. I personally bought an AMD 7870 which falls in between the two of them (depending on the game of course). My processor holds back my card. Ill update that later!

Thanks. for the feedback. I am not going to be overclocking or zerging or any of that other power gaming stuff. I will probably play 10-15 hours for the whole week and won't be "raiding"

My friend has the 660 and said it handles Battlefield 3 just fine and will do just fine for GW2 (he is a gaming nut). The link for the tiger one has the ASUS motherboard like you recommended and 16g ram which will hold me over. I am asking him to look into an i5 instead of i7 so I can drop the price just a little.

If we do that I will be closer to my $700-800 budget and he has the OS.

    I appreciate all the replies.
