The Lost Shores One-Time Event: Don't Miss It!

Even though we already have a thread about the Lost Shores update, I decided to make this announcement its own thread, to ensure that everyone sees it and that people don't miss this event.

    Martin Kerstein announced

Something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows – and we want to make sure that you are not missing out, so here is a schedule (without spoilers) for you, so you can plan ahead:

    • On Friday November 16th at noon PST (20:00 GMT) the weekend will kick off with an Event in Lion’s Arch that you don’t want to miss. This will trigger events in other parts of Tyria as well.
*On Saturday November 17th at noon PST (20:00 GMT), another phase will kick in.
Each phase is triggered by a special event, but you will be able to enjoy additional content afterwards even if you cannot make the kick-off time. There is one exception:

The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! There will be plenty of content available to enjoy that will remain permanently in the world as a result of the outcome of this event on Sunday.

We will give you more details once we get closer to the event, but wanted to give you an early heads up so you can plan accordingly.

NOON on a Friday... really? Well, at least maybe because of that THIS time perhaps some of the over seas people will be able to make it, because you can count out much of the US players being able to make it (unless they are out of school and jobless ..or happen to have Friday off).

...Noon on a Friday (head hits desk).

Well I missed all the Halloween One Time Events so I guess I just need to get used to not seeing the events in this game. One Time Events... who comes up with this shit? In the 9 and a half years I've been playing MMOs I've never seen a game do OTEs, they always do TRIGGER events so that EVERYONE doesn't have to be on all at the exact same time. And you can trigger it when you ARE able to get on to play.

The way they have this set up so that only a portion of the players get to see it is bad planning, IMO. And no, don't tell me to go look it up on YouTube after word, I shouldn't have to do that. I want to see it in game. But w/e. Anet is God, so go head and start flaming me for my "idiotic" comment and start telling me that Anet can't please everyone all the time. blah blah blah. Yes I'm pissed, I missed all the Halloween One Time Events and now it looks like I'm going to miss these as well. So will many many others. But I'm the "bad guy", I'm sure because I dare say something negative about Anet on this forum, so go ahead and start flaming me. I care not. One Time Events is just bad planing and a stupid idea, IMO. And yes it is MY OPINION. I'm sure others find it just great and fine and wonderful, but personally, I think it stinks.

I agree, seems weird to do one time events in the middle of a week day... why not kick off on saturday and do the second phase on sunday, when people have a much better chance of being there?

Rift has had one time events too, and gets many of the same complaints. But look at the first one time event in LA. You watched The Mad King destroy the statue. That was the one time event. Being there wasn't significantly different from watching a video of it.

The dungeon it left behind you had days to do it.

Was it cool to be there? Sure, but it wasn't really a big deal if you weren't. I actually waited up for it, and it probably wasn't worth it.

I have to agree with Vayne. Although it's cool to be able to attend such one-time event, the content that is unlocked at these times will remain available afterwards for much longer, so you don't really miss out on much if you can't be there. And tbh, I think there are only 2 options here: either they make the events instanced, so that everyone can solo them at the time that suits them best (essentially going back to the way events were done in GW1), or they keep it the way it is, where they happen in the wide open world, but only once.
The arrival of the Mad King in the square in Lion's Arch (for the first time in several hundred years) wouldn't mean much if it repeated every 10 minutes.

Obviously ArenaNet wanted to step away from the solo instances that they had in GW2, and wanted you to be able to experience these events with all your friends (which was what a lot of people wanted). The downside is, that this means some opening events will only happen once. Obviously, there is no way to please everyone...

As for the timing of this one... my guess would be that the current largest amount of active GW2 players is located in Europe/South Africa. For that group, this time should be perfect. And after that, everyone has the whole weekens to enjoy the content that is unlocked at that time.
But yeah, if you only look at the one-time event itself and not at the unlocked content, then noon on a Saturday or Sunday would probably have been a bit better.

For me, all these events happen at 6 am every day. For an insomniac who has trouble sleeping, my only really option is to try to nap early and stay up through them. Frankly, 3 days in a row at 6 am suck. There's no real good way to make a time that's good for everyone.

For a three day event, like this one, they either have to start with the minor event on Friday, as they're doing, or they have to have the finale of the event, which I'm sure is the big one, on Monday at noon, US Pacific time. I think missing the opening of the event won't be nearly as big a deal as missing the last, one time chain.
