    Leveling help? Maybe? I dunno.

So I finally got to start playing the game last night (mc is 'Tahmus Hawke' a Human Guardian on the Dragonbrand server until I can migrate to Tarnished Coast where my guild is) and I'm currently on level 8... but I'm ahead of my level.

Not so much that its upscaling me, but enough that I've found myself at an empass due to the ferocity of a boss. I'm on the level 10 (or 11?) mission after the trial on the human noble story, "Fall of the Falcons" or some such... anyway, after defending the outpost, a level 11 (or 12? I dunno, I wasn't paying attention) Centaur dude challenges me to a duel and he basically just trows me around like a rag doll.

Now here's my problem... I've done all the side quests I know about... all the people with hearts to fill have them full, and I've located all the waypoints on my map save for those too far into high level beastie territory (I got one in the level 14 area past the outpost I'm at in the storyline even), but I'm still just level 8. I didn't think much about being under level for these missions, especially after the last one gave me a level 8 weapon, so I figured it was normal... but now I'm getting my butt handed to me.

I'm sure I can figure something out on my own, even if it mean farming events, but I just thought I'd ask if there was something I missed, or if event farming is a normal thing I'll have to do throughout the game... anyway thanks for your time and any suggestions you might have, and I hope I don't sound too stupid here, lol.

Just farm events and collect stuff, plants, mineral ores, trees etc and you will level up, you must be around 3-5 levels always about your main quest line to be able to defeat it easily, you can defeat it at normal level but depends on your class.

I'm not sure if it's true for story quest drops, but normal drops scale to your level. So if you got a lvl 8 drop in the story, it doesn't neccessarily mean that was the appropriate level I guess? I would always go off the suggested lvl next to the quest name. That's just me.

To level up more though, I would just get the POI's and Vistas and then venture into the area of stronger beasties and start taking them down. The free roam higher lvl beasts will be slightly easier then a higher lvl champ in your storyline.

With all due respect.....you are missing something. the 4 other starter areas that you can level up in. Go to Lion's arch, and use that to go to another starter area. I run one starter area til i can no longer run it solo, go to the next starter level work that.......rinse and repeat. Keep moving out further. Fills out the map nice, you can level up pretty quick. Hope that helps.

2 things I could think for you to do do are:

    1. 100% the current zones you are in (Press M and look at the key on the side, it will tell you what % you're at, and how many Vistas, skill points etc you need to complete)

    2. Locate the pink/purple portal things (all starting towns have them, so I guess look in Divinity's Reach). Port to Lion's Arch and unlock all the waypoints etc there. From LA there are portals to all the starting towns, unlock those and venture out into the map where there are plenty of other 1-15 zones to level up in.

Explore. Explore explore explore. Go out and run around, collect crafting materials, find that random cave full of mobs that has a nice shiny chest, when you see an even pop up on your map go do it (events are great exp), craft (crafting is also great exp), or if its your cut of tea go run around the WvW map a bit. It can be alot of fun and good exp too if you find a good group to run with and take down some baddies.

The possibilities are practically endless in Tyria but its not going to be handed to you and your not going to be led by a carrot on a stick. You make your own way, you are the master of your own destiny, you are the hero of your own story. Go out and make yourself a legend!

*cough* Sorry did i get a little too into that?

See, I would just say explore till you have had enough of that? (in my opinion I never get sick of exploring) ...Reason why I say that is because if you find a cave like others have posted on this thread you get loads of experience. Mobs give you extra experience if they haven't been killed in awhile and most of the time caves are left behind by the people who don't like exploring much. I would also recommend you killing a neutral mob (yellow mobs) ....they are relatively easy to kill and they usually give you a lot of bonus experience as real players usually just skip those since they are neutral.

Getting 100% map completion is a great way to gain experience too. If you get the map completed (meaning getting all the PoI's, Vistas, Waypoints, and skill Points) You get a wonderful reward chest that gives you loot of some sort, money, and a bunch of experience

I hope that helps a bit. I think when i first started the game I just explored and I ended up not having to repeat content to level up. I also never had to farm events to level up. I do farm events though in Orr for karma and other things that you will learn you will need for Legendary weapons.

Everything you do in this game gives you experience, from exploring, to doing Dynamic Events, to doing the Heart Events, to gathering, to crafting... The thing is you aren't supposed to do your personal story back to back to back without any leveling in between. What I, and a lot of people do, is wait until you're either at level for the next stage of your Personal Story or one or two levels higher. If you look next to the description of your PS in the upper right you'll see a number next to it, that's the recommended level of the personal story. They WILL get harder as you level so I recommend waiting until you're at least that level or even one or two levels higher before doing them.

You will need to level in between your PS story events. The easiest way to do that (IMO) is to be in level appropriate zones, do all the Dynamic Events that spawn *they give great EXP*, and take every opportunity to gather (a fast and easy way to gain EXP as well as mats for future crafting or extra coin if you chose to sell the mats). Always have the three types of gathering tools with you at all times (they can be purchased from many merchants throughout Tyria).

And always try to do the vistas, points of interests, heart quests, and skill challenges (they are marked on your map). Doing these in each zone gives you a "zone completion" or "map completion" reward which gives you great exp, money, and transmutation stones.

    I hope that helps!

The best way to get to lions arch free from anywhere in the world. Click the cross swords in the top left it's called pvp. Click go to the heart of mists. Run directly forward into the lion arch portal which is very close. Don't worry no other players can attack you in the mists. (unless you actually select and enter a game through the pvp browser dude). This saves you the cost of teleporting to divinity reach and is also much faster.
