Race Specific Guilds ok?

Maybe this should be moved...I just don't know where because the Guilds subforum isn't the place for it.

Right now there is a guild advertizing itself for black players only and will have a "zero tolerance against white people". I can't immagine how a "guild for white people only, zero tolerance against white people" guild recruit thread would be received. Imo, discrimination is discrimination but given that I was not born in the US and given that I come from a background that ethnic discrimination was rampant (so I'm crazy anti discrimination on any basis) maybe I'm off base here.

Should guilds like that exist? Should they be able to advertize for members on this site?

I'd hazard a guess and say AN would step in. It sounds racist no matter how you look at it, regardless of what race you actually are.

I'd hazard a guess that such a guild wouldn't have a whole lot of members

And although I agree that someone only recruiting black people is basically discriminating, if we want to regulate this, then the question becomes where to draw the line. What kinds of discrimination do we regulate, and what kinds do we not? Is a guild that only recruits women okay? How about a guild that only recruits Europeans? Or a guild that only recruits Spanish speaking people? Or even a guild that only recruits adults? Objectively looking, all of those are discriminating.

In most of those cases, I prefer to believe that it's not a case of bad intent and intentional discrimination... it's only the desire to adventure together with people with a similar cultural background.

But in this particular case "zero tolerance against white people" definitely sounds like a contradiction with the "sick of all the racism" in that same guild thread... and I will make sure to address that.

I just want to clarify that I'm not offended by that post and think that this person is necesarily some horrible racist or something.

Its just that in MMO's Ive never heard of race being an issue or brought up at all really and this caught me by suprise. Most people don't care who is behing the keyboard as long as you get along nice enough. Except for the occasional, omg it might be an actual real life girl playing the game where the nerds freak out.

Not sure how the guild could even enforce its own rules? How do you know what race, what age is of the new recruit. Its the internet, people lie, just seems pointless.
