Thread: Same-gender Romance

    Same-gender Romance

I’m under the impression that there will be some (very light, mostly implied) romance in the storyline, should the player choose to pursue it.

After reading about the huge issue over at SWTOR, I just figured I’d start a thread stating that I really hope same-gender options are available in GW2.

As far as I can tell, the addition of such options would not detract in any way from those who do not wish to pursue them, but they would really add quite a lot for those players who would prefer to do so.

It's already been said that same-sex relationships exist within the lore (there was a very long thread somewhere here, I think it was called "Syvlari and Sexuality"?). I'm not sure that romance is going to be present in the game though, not in the Dragon Age or Mass Effect magnitude, anyway.

I've been trying to avoid as many personal storyline spoilers as possible so I admit I've only been skimming things related to details. I hadn't heard about implied romance from that, though that doesn't mean you're not correct.

Like ComplexNuber said, from what we know of the sylvari they're typically pansexual as a race -- gender doesn't factor in at all to their views on romance, possibly because they also throw gender roles out the window and don't reproduce through sex. Imo, if there were going to be implied same-sex romance for a player plot, it would most likely be found there. Two of the main sylvari characters for the overarching plot are both female and ex-lovers.

All of that is touched on some in this blog post.

Lol, after the last thread on this subject that's probably a good idea.

Considering how much fun I'm having whoring around the galaxy in SWTOR, I'm kind of hoping for expanded romance options. For all the gay characters out there, they should be allowed in on the fun as well. As others have stated, there's going to be same gender romance...just not completely sure on the extent of it.

I hope it doesn't just boil down to learning more about the lesbian lovers in lore. I can't imagine what would be interesting about two girls going at it. I don't see this as entirely necessary... Romancing is way more fun in real life I think? C/D?

The only relevant thing that would really piss me off is if my personal story at some point made a subtle implication that my character is straight. That'd really make me lose interest in playing, but I don't think they'll do that.

If there's some kind of in-game mechanic for romance that's not limited by gender, that's fine by me. If there isn't, eh, players can always conduct their own roleplay-driven romances themselves. Frankly I don't have an issue with what consenting adults do with one another.

That said, when I read the GW2 novel "Edge of Destiny" I got a bit of a vibe from the relationship between Caithe and another character (not one of the other members of Destiny's Edge, mind you). I wasn't sure if it was meant to be a deep sisterly affection or something more intimate. So I think gay relationships in the game may not be out of the question.
