I honestly dont believe that non of you saw this coming. Did you really think that they would let the game stay at the exotic lvl for the next 6 years, HA! Sorry they misled you. The question is how will the availablity of this new gear work out. Will it be dungeon only? Will it be world drops?

I am by no means hardcore, but I think with the slow paced delivery of this gear it is intended for casuals to obtain. By all means, sell the farm and move on. But I beleive its a little premature at this time.

GW1 has had the same max level armor for 7 years. So, yeah, when a-net said no gear grind I figured it meant no gear grind.

The only way I'll be kind of okay with this is if they make it so you can craft the same level armor and get it from karma vendors as well. I don't want to be forced to run the same dungeon over and over again to get it.

I don’t think people should necessarily quit the game. (I am though) People talk about gear grind like its some sort of Boogie man and evil. Gear grind if fine, 10 million people pay $15 a month to grind and lots of them enjoy it. Some people in GW2 were asking for it. If it’s something that many many people enjoy, it should be a part of some games.

The issue is that AN sold itself in a very VERY specific way. (at existed that way for 7 years in GW1) You get max gear (fairly fast) and then no gear grind. It’s all cosmetic but absolutely no gear grind. Now they’re introducing some of it. They’re saying there is more to come. For people who don’t want to play a game with a gear creep (and content creep), they will likely leave the game as it is no longer designed for them in mind.

I think people should be careful to bash a game mechanic (gear grind) and say its bad at face value, etc. It’s just that many people spent time and money (farming dungeons, karma, money, etc) to get the sets they liked, the looks they liked, WVW BADGES that are insanely hard to get enough for a full set; for those efforts to be trivialized to a degree.

I think that people who leave are right. I think the people who think it’s no big deal and stay are right. I think that people who love this and look forward to it are right.

Well, I didnt play gw1. From what Ive heard, it wasnt a full fledged mmorpg. I am sure anet is counting on adding players with achievable gear to make up for you guys here leaving. I thought I didnt want a gear treadmill, but the whole time I felt like something was missing from this game. More organized content and a carrot. I need the carrot or else I have no reason to log in. The legendary is such a long term goal the it isnt enough. I have seem to many friends burn out trying for their legendary. But for them its the only goal left in the game. they all like how they look now so they dont need to do dungeons anymore.

I will miss you all when your gone

But that's the thing, there are BETTER MMO's out there if people are looking for progression. I think this is a big mistake, I don't think ArenaNet is prepared to compete in the progression market.

Edit: I'd also like to add in, that I hope I'm wrong.

I agree that Guild Wars 2 lacks long term goals... things that give players purpose and make them want to come back every day and play. But I don't believe in gear progression, and I don't think that's the right solution. In fact, I haven't even started working on legendaries because of this... I don't want to grind for gear. So the fact that legendaries provide a slight stat increase compared to exotics (completely contrary to what ArenaNet promised us and what has been the policy in GW1 for all those years), already p*sses me off. Now they're adding another level to that. And that is definitely one step too far.

That blog post says there will be Legendary gear that will be equal in stats to the Ascended gear type. The goal was to have Legendary gear be stat equal so there was no gear grind, that still stays true.

lol...how can you say there is no gear grind? Is there better gear available post patch that wasn't available at launch? Yes. Did they say there is more to come? Yes. Is this gear necessry to do some content? Yes. (read the notes, its needed to do certain parts and deal with new game mechanics such as "Agony") Is this contrary to all the things they said along the way? Yes.

I'm not sure what your definition of gear grind is; but this is certainly it.

Are you jumping to conclusions before you even know what is really going on? Yes.

They said there is new gear that can be found in the dungeon.
They said nothing of grinding the dungeon to get tokens and buy the gear as is per usual in MMO's and is what happens for the Dungeons in the game already.
They said there is a new condition, and as you go FURTHER into the dungeon (which is a choice) you'll need to use the armor you'll already receive...inside the dungeon.

The Stats you get from the armor will be the same on legendary armor. Yes, the legendary won't have the Infusion slots, but the stats will be the same.

I don't understand how you think this is a grind. If you CHOOSE to go further into the dungeon where you need the armor you get FROM the dungeon, then essentially you're not grinding. You are just playing the game.

Man.. why do people get so upset over a game. Did people get this mad over Monopoly FFS...
