ArenaNet: Linsey Murdock unveils High End Ascended Gear (2012-11-13)

I'm confused on why this is a bad thing? No one was expecting new gear types or anything for future updates and expansions? The game does have to evolve some..doesn't it?

IDK from my perspective this all seems great. I love the new dungeon idea and I love that there are more options for gear at end game. Every part of this game has so many aspects. As a casual gamer it's awesome. I'm slowly leveling 5 toons at once and I'm having a blast. I've even started to get into sPvP a lot... I waited only so I had a much better understanding and feel for the game mechanics.

Yes, nobody was expecting in THIS GAME. Because the devs specifically said that was the case many many times.

AN knows about the wheel and grind and said they were against it. So their end game was SUPPOSED to be different than the gear grind cop out. That's the end game of many other MMO's (that arguably do it better) So if they said from start "This is WoW with dodge, better graphics and no sub fee" I would have no problems with this change.

As I said in the other post where you commented on gear grind... The ascended armor is only in the dungeon. You only need that armor if you go further and further INTO the dungeon. So essentially if you stay away from the dungeon.. the gear you need not.

Now if you need this armor to play on the Lost Shores map or something, then I would understand why people would be upset.. but that isn't the case.

People whined and cried that there were no raids. The dungeons were too easy and people picked the routes they wanted to take in the Explorable Dungeons to have it be as easy as possible. Now ANET has brought a change to bring a different option to the hardcore players.

I'm just confused why everyone is up in arms and ready to storm the castle with pitchforks and torches ablaze. This game is bringing out new content and options within a few months of release..and for FREE. Call me crazy, but I'm extremely excited. I'm only mad that I won't be able to be logged in on Friday for the launch of the event and it will be hard for me to do so the following two days.

People are mad because they are doing what they said they wouldn't do. New armor was supposed to be cosmetic not required. I'm especially mad that not only will I be forced to get this new gear to stay competitive but if I want to infuse it I'm going to have to use the damned mystic forge which I absolutely loathe and have refused to use since the game launched.

No. What happened to, you can play whatever part of the game you chose and not be at a disadvantage. They went back on alot of things they said.

I don't care how they phrase it. They're introducing concepts that most people didnt expect from this game. If I'm playing WoW, I know what I'm getting into and I better not complain about those aspects. If I bought GW2 and they changed their core ideology, thats disconcerning to say the least.

Right now, exotic is the average gear level in WvW, as very few people have legendaries. With the release of that new patch, more and more people will start to obtain ascended gear, ie. more and more people will have an edge in WvW... making ascended gear a requirement for competitive play. Which means players will be forced to do that dungeon to get the gear, even if they don't really want to.

Which is exactly what ArenaNet promised they would never do.

I didn't even think of the WvW aspect. They didn't touch on it as well. That would be concerning. It would be pretty crappy if some of the new gear could inflict new conditions that others couldn't defend. I would highly agree with that. I would hope and think they would just make those things "turn off" in WvW. Time will tell.

Helping my friends complete the gear sets they want to have. More carrot, less stick.

Well.. for this instance and this moment and this update.. the Ascended gear is only found in the fractals and is only needed the further you get into the fractals. It is also only needed to defend against the Agony condition the enemies can do. I know further down the line they are saying they plan to improve this progression of gear and upgrades, but that's only to keep adding harder content and ways to combat it.

Did we all just want a cookie cutter game that didn't make changes? Did you guys just want the same level of armor and toughness so essentially everyone is maxed out and just waiting to zerg the next dungeon? That's how I see things if an update and upgrade like this didn't come.

Am I the only one happy with the changes? Well aside from the Dude.
