I've been reading the opening post again and one thing has come through that seems to have been missed by some. While the ring is a dungeon drop it seems to state that the back item is from a Mystic Forge recepy and the infusion is from a Mystic Forge recepy so its hopefully this means that its not just a new dungeon grind to get the stuff. It doesn't say where the recepies come from, I don't know if like WoW you learn them in dungeons or if it will be something that can be learn through the normal experimentation system.
Hopefully it also means that the new assended gear is tradable so will be available to those of us who don't do dungeons. I can then concentrate on the crafting and sell the back items and infusions to those that want to do the dungeon. (Assuming I can concentrate and get my crafting that high, if I can't that my problem not ANets)
I know this is no help for pvpers but it might mean you can get the items through another method.
You know I'm just not even gonna think about it anymore. I'll form a stronger opinion once they reveal the rest of the info that they're not telling us then. Which I still think is the stupidest thing they've done. I seriously don't think they understand how the internet operates as a social medium. But until they tell us exactly how it's all going to work out I don't want to speculate. It's just frustrating and trivial.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to say there's a new item tier and not give us the full picture is an idiot.
They're even more of an idiot for using "SOON" in their stupid reveal post. WoW people know what I'm talkin' about.
Maybe I misread the official text that was posted in the OP, but to me it clearly stated that on top of having that super important condition-defense stat that would only be important for the new dungeons (And I actually think that would be a great way to implement gear progression without affecting PVP balance) they would also have slightly higher stats. Now, slightly higher stats, what does that mean? 2 points more of each stat? 10? 20? Who knows? But higher stats will affect WvW, because suddenly exotic armour could not be the best armour for that anymore (Not sure how the infusion vs upgrade slot thing works, so maybe it's in fact the other way round) and if you wanted to have the best armour for PVP, you would have to do a dungeon.
But to me the real trouble isn't right now, when the difference between ascended and exotic gear will probably be negligible. What will it be like in 1 year. If they keep implementing new tiers of gear, at some point my exotic armour will be as useful as some blue lvl 80 stuff is in comparison to it right now. And I'm assuming they will be implementing new tiers frequently as they've finally realised that their take on dungeons without gear progression doesn't interest PVE-players nearly as much as they thought it would. Now you could probably say that I can easily acquire these new tiers through this dungeon, but to that I say no. I did three dungeons in this game and I didn't like it very much. I loathe PVE in any game.
I bought it mainly for PVP and if I won't be able to compete anymore at some point because the developers suddenly decided that their lovely gear equality mantra isn't true any longer that would really suck, because I kind of grew accustomed to my WvW. Now, I'm also by no means hardcore or very skilled, but I love having a chance when I enter a battle. I don't want this to become WoW-like, when you knew you were screwed in your knight's blue-armour the second you saw that big ashkandi in your opponents hands. And I hope they'll find some way to implement this gear progression without hampering the WvW fans.
The bigger problem is once a game starts doing this they don't stop. Once everyone starts getting ascended they will release legendary, then they will release mega legendary, then it will be ultra mega legendary.
When they add the gear grind the older dungeons quickly become outdated and unplayed. You end up being funneled into playing only the very latest content and there is only so much new content they can put out at a time so you wind up grinding through the same thing over and over again.
This wasn't supposed to happen in this game and that's the reason so many GW1 players have been waiting for years for this game. GW1 PvE was all about farming dungeons for the rare cosmetic drops and showing off fancy titles. It kept people happy for years. This game was supposed to be skill based, now they are going to make it another generic gear based MMO and in my experience it doesn't take long before a game like that slips into the P2W category.
To me a viable move would be to change WvW in a way that it works just like sPVP on a larger scale. You could join a WvW map with your lvl 2 toon, get all skills, all trait points and all items of whatever gear lvl they deem appropriate for this and just zerg away happily ever after.
I really loathe gear gaps in a PVP game. I think every pvper does. We don't particularly like hunting items, we like fine tuning our builds and of course most of all having an engaging and fun combat experience, which I'm really having in WvW right now.
I would really hate if this became like WoW, were you could determine from the looks of the opponents gear that he was three item tiers over you and you didn't stand any chance of winning.
Hello
The game is going to be like WOW or dont?
