Thread: ArenaNet: Linsey Murdock unveils High End Ascended Gear (2012-11-13)

No need for refunds...I got $60 out of this game and then some. I think it was a great game and had the potential t be the game I play for the next 5-6 years. I really wanted that...why wouldn't I want that out of an MMO game? But I need it to be what I thought it would be at launch (bugs and normal MMO issues at start asside). But at no point did I feel I didn't get my moneys worth already.

I think one part that hasn't been mentioned is the rather bad effect this will have on the existing PvE content. Level scaling is supposed to bring you down so that you aren't dominating lower level content. Yes I know the low level content isn't very challenging when you are 80, but now it'll be worse. With 80s having access to even more powerful gear the level scaling is that much less effective. The more I think about this the less I like it.

It's a shame as it looks like there's a lot of other interesting changes in this release.

I was going to respond to Vayne but bokiz pretty much said everything for me. I think you are my e-doppelganger or something, except I thought the karma gear was ugly so I still have my karma.

Right now Anet has secured the RvR niche for MMOs. It's the only modern game doing it on this scale, and doing it this well (culling issues aside). And they are royally pissing off that part of their fanbase, to introduce gear progression lite, which other games have done longer, and better (to Anet's credit), and which people have already been invested in playing for years.

Yeah I brought that up as well but it was probably in one of the other threads on the same topic lol.

I'm just annoyed that shortly after release they tack on these new "features" that are completely back-asswards from the original intent of the game (at least from my understanding) all the while not fixing the TONS of bugs out there. Does the Necro dagger still HEAL YOUR ENEMY? I'm pretty sure it does. Not to mention features such as GUESTING which aren't implemented (nor talked about any longer).

WvW is fun but instead of an evolving meta game it looks like we might be dealing with the gear treadmill and even PvP specific infusions soon (no one EVER said it would be only for the new mobs, they introduced a new combat mechanic with Offensive and Defensive properties, I don't see why it wouldn't apply outside of Fractals). They can say they aren't introducing a "treadmill" all they want, but higher stats are higher stats. Why couldn't they leave them the same as Exotic but instead of an Upgrade slot you get an Infusion slot? Legendary items had the same stats as Exotics so honestly I never thought they'd start the creep.

What I'm thinking of now is instead of being able to slot an item we'll be digging through the Fractals for items with decent stats, decent bonuses (since they are built in they can have us grind for the same piece of gear but with a better or different bonus if they want), AND the correct Infusion slots we're looking for to survive the new content (I don't need another defensive slot darnit, I want an OMNI!).

    I am not amused.

Also lol @ refunds: "I played this game for FIVE HUNDRED HOURS and couldn't find anything else to do! I want my money back!"

It's true, WvW is probably the only part of this game that consistently has hundreds of thousands of players doing the same thing. The percentage of which that's bothered by these changes are of course up for speculation, but it's really not a safe business choice to mess with that demographic.

Yah, I definitely got my money's worth out of it ... but I wanted to keep giving them more and getting MOAR money's worth out of it. Ah well.

Don't be simpleminded, it's unsightly. Refunds are obviously not going to happen, they never do in MMO's. Which is what I said. But this is definitely borderline false advertisement. They need to tread carefully.

well that just seemed uncalled for
Anet has been GREAT about professional accountability. Want a refund? Request it, they'll close your account, give you your money back, and you can be done with it. There are tons of posts about how they have had no issues refunding accounts (even banned accounts).

I was making a joke about all the posts I read where people played for 400 hours and then complained that the game was worthless and demanded a refund (and got one). It's laughable.

I agree with your points and I myself am mad (mostly at all the money I threw at the gem store). I got my $60 worth but I feel like I invested a lot more (..a lot more..) money into the FUTURE of the game by buying gems, and it looks like I may have thrown all that away considering the developers might ruin a game I love in favor of a bunch of crybabies who weren't ever happy to begin with.

I actually felt the same way about you with some other posts....thus adding to the e-doppelganger-ness. My head hurts.
