An outsider looking in will see two one time events, a brand new zone, a new dungeon type, a new PvP map, and a gear increase with no additional payments post purchase. An outsider looking in will more than likely see this as a good thing.
Let's assume you're correct and that the majority of the population is pissed and is quitting. They're not going to try and real you back in. That's not how game development works. People that claim to have been "playing the game for 7 years and dedicated all this time into GW1 and are angry" yet have just quit over a single change that's actually a minor part of a major patch and are now "protesting" agains it because of how much you love the old game; all that tells the Dev's is that you're no longer their target audiance and that your opinions are dismissible.
It's not about you and your fellow GW1 fans, it's about the next generation and the potential new fans. It's not the same game, things are not going to be the same no matter how much you want them to be and holding onto that sentementality is foolish. Kids that were 6 years old when GW1 came out are now 13.
I've seen this happen time and time again. Not just in MMO's, but in all forms of gaming. DMC: Devil May Cry, for example. When it was first revealed and the first trailer was released, without knowing any details about the game it was immediately shunned by "loyal" fans of the franchise because of aesthetic changes to Dante's appearance and certain changes to portions of his character and moveset. Years before the game was even scheduled to release, before anyone even got to play it and see how it was. Much like how people shunned this game as soon as info on this recent patch was released.
Judging a gameplay element of any game before you understand it, before you even have a chance to try it and then quitting without doing so is ignorant and will do nothing to help further your arguments on why it's a good or a bad change. At that point you're not even a factor anymore.
