Thread: ArenaNet: Linsey Murdock unveils High End Ascended Gear (2012-11-13)

I feel the same way as Centaur here.

Imagine this. I've been sick for a full week so I missed out on a few days of fractals. Most of my guildies are in higher level fractals by now. Sure I can ask them to join me in a level 1 fractal but I feel annoyed by this. Why would others have to invest hours of their time for me so I can be at the phase they are at the moment. Everyone in my guild has a family and careers and they don't get to play that much. We're pretty casual and that litttle time that people have...I don't want to steal it. So I pug fractals, because I don't like asking for help like that, and I get left out. And if I grind enough I might be at the same phase as they are and get my first ascended gear.

TBH, I've not done any fractals, because I'm not so interested in dungeons and gear and all that. I love running around and exploring more and doing PvP. But this is a situation a lot of my guildies are in. They feel left out of content! Don't get me wrong, the guildies that are further in don't mind helping out, but even that is frustrating, having to do level 1 fractals over and over again to help out, without progressing yourself.

So what's worth doing if you love doing dungeons and PvE and are a casual gamer?

Lanka, the drops pretty much just as good, you get the same kind of rewards, it's not like they're losing out by doing this. All they're doing is getting a guildie up to the same level so they have someone else to party with to do the later ones if they so choose. But there are plenty of people just farming level 1. I'm level 3 and I still level 1, because it's just as much fun and the loots pretty much the same.

If you're playing for fun, which casuals often do, there's no reason not to do level 1.

Conditioned is such a harsh word, and displays such a lack of understanding. But then, you have no idea why other people do things the way they do, so I'll take it as yet another wild guess about MMOs and their gamers.

Judging by XFire, after the weekend event usage has dropped back down to almost exactly where it was before. At best you can say they didn't lose anything in the short term.

But along with not gaining anything they have earned a bad reputation and a shit ton of negative reviews floating around the net.

I don't want to see the game fail but they are running out of time to fix this mistake.

Yeah, this move definitely hasn't done the company much good in the short term, and quite a few people have requested refunds due to false advertising. Whether or not it was a good thing to do (business wise) in the long run, remains to be seen.

A quote from Eric Flannum comes to mind here:

In the current western gaming market a game has one chance to find it's audience and that chance occurs right when it releases. The examples of games that have released with huge problems and then stabilized and gained a following after being fixed are few and far between. On the other hand the examples of games that released with a lot of potential, made a bad first impression and have since been relegated to a small audience or have even been shut down are easy to point to. We've all seen where releasing unfinished gets a game and none of us want Guild Wars 2 to fail because it was released before it was finished.
As of this moment, GW2 is definitely in the "lot of potential, bad first impression" category.

Did we just talk about Christianity a bit there? This thread has more twists than a delicious pretzle, directed by Scorsese.

Again, there are so MANY people that play WvW on a serious level, I know because I played with them. It will matter. And I don't care if YOU don't do it seriously (awesome for you bro) point is I and many others do. Im so sick of reading responses (often on offical site) about how you cna go in with low level gear, it's all a zergfest and you shouldn't be solo in there anyway. OMG, never seen so many people be wrong.

My server (T2 and was T1 for a week) is not a zegfest. We have multiple organized guilds. On our own voice chat. On server voice chat. Never zerg unless its strategically needed..."both walls down at garrison, need all people here to tak" or something.

Sure you can go in there underlevel and undergeared. I call those people walking badges. Trust me, you're not helping out your server. I see 2-3 sub 80's and I'm by myself, I'm taking them on...I'm either killing them all or getting out before they can kill me. They post no threat.

And the BIGGEST issue for me, people think solo has no place in WvW and that's crazy. I run solo all the time taking camps and killing dollyaks. And those dollyaks are often guarded by player. That will be a 1on1 fight and it will matter. Or I will defend a dollyak and same thing. Or I will just run into a roamers of theirs or someone will catch me roaming in their territory...plenty of 1on1 fights that are necessary to do in order to help your team. Stop that scout from getting to where he wants to go. Etc.

And I could rest easy with my exotics knowing that I'll never have a disadvantage. Now if I wanted that same level playing field, I need Ascended gear.

People, stop saying its only for dungeons. And it will get worse since more is on the way. This affects more people that "1% of dungeons and its self contained".

You can be sick of reading my responses all you want. They also said there will be ways to get this gear in WvW, but you keep ignoring that. As long as you keep ignoring stuff they say, you can make up anything you want.

As for the official forums, I think I have 2 or 3 posts there, and nothing on any of these topics or anything remotely close. I don't post on the official forums, because between these forums and my guild forums, I have no time for a third forum. Maybe you're mistaking me for someone else.

The bottom line is, Anet DID say there would be ways to get this stuff in WvW. Right now, this stuff consists of a ring and a backpack. If you can't over come that huge stat differential, you're probably not as hard core as you think you are.

Dude....um who is talking about YOUR posts and you? You are probably one of those people but that post is not about you. Thats why I didn't quote you or anyone. Wow.

It's a post about that ARGUMENT Im sick of reading. And I specifically mentioned the official forum more so than this one. How you got that this was about you is beyond me.

And I'm NOT ingnoring anything. It will be available in WvW eventually. What is eventually? 1 month? 6? And was is the currency I should be saving? Karma? Badges? Something else i'll have to start from scratch while the Dungeon people are waaaay ahead because they can do PVE content that can be repeated and is available right now?

If you were a consumer of anything else and they said "hey white people can get this item right now, but black people will get it "eventually"" would you say that is equal and ok or would you say "wtf, what is not the same thing as treating them equally". It's not logical.

They also said the wouldn't add vertical progression. What are we supposed to believe at this point?
