And you know, I do solo some vets and my wife and I soloed a champion in a 55th level area...with no drops. Sure it could have been a zerg...but it wasn't. It was a grueling twenty minutes of kiting while my wife did most of the damage. Definitely not worth the time it took.
I'm not saying it's the optimal solution or anything. Just that I see why Dev's did it. Gotta remember, this is the MMO community, people will abuse the crap out of anything they can for self-gain.

And that, again, as I've said over and over again. I know everyones super happy to have GW2 and they all expected it to be their dream game and blah blah, but it's still an MMO. So if they're not expecting MMO mechanics then, that's really their own fault.

I know it's a problem. In the early days, you could get great rewards doing low level zones and people just sat farming those low level zones. That's why Anet curtailed them in the first place. People will do the least amount of work to get the most reward, even if they're not having fun doing it.

Sorta backwards, but there you are.

I don't expect a huge drop out of vets and champs every time. That's not what I'm saying. What would be nice is maybe a top level mat from that zone and at least one blue with the chance for a yellow or exotic. I don't think that's too much to ask. Diablo never seemed to have an issue with scaling drops for monsters I don't know why Arena does. What's ticking me off is that I get nothing. Why would I bother with any champion or vet ever again if I get nothing for the effort?

And for the zerg argument, why does that matter? That's what they want people to do is cooperate. If you're smart enough to get a group together to zerg the champs and vets on the map you should get something for it.

Anything that guarentees a drop will be abused. I would just camp with my 4 buddies the same champion over and over if the loot was something we could count as a "Sure Thing". Fey is correct, Anything that can be abused for personal gain, will be. Its a delicate balancing act.

Even if it was a high lvl crafting material, someone would be there waiting for it to pop, I used to camp certain mobs a lot in past mmos, just put a good movie on the tv, and sit there all day. If there was somewhere in gw to do it, Id be there right now.

So why is this a bad thing really? If people want to camp some vets all day long to get some blue drops with a chance of yellow, fine they can do it. I don't see how this is abuse at all. There are much more efficient ways to bot/get loot if you try, I don't see people exploting this. Maybe I'm wrong.

I fail to see how this is an issue. We were all doing it in Orr before the patch and I didn't see the problem.

Actually I never farmed Orr. I got map completion in the zones, and still working on the Personal Story there, but other than doing an event as I passed on a way to a vista or skill point I haven't farmed it, haven't even been in it since the nerf.

Most of my time is spent in WvW or leveling up my now lvl 42 Guardian so in 15-40 level zones that I've noticed the difference in drops.

Farming is actually bad for games. People who farm, even though they love it and play what way, affect the economy of a game quite drastically. If the economy of a game doesn't matter, than it doesn't matter...but I think it does.

This is what happened with ectos. Gold farmers artificially brought the price down. They were easy to get. The problem is the easier they are to get, the more flooded the market the faster everything goes, including the purchasing of legendary weapons. The thing is, in order for a game to be successful, the company has to manipulate how long things take to get. If everything is easy to get then people get bored and leave. Again, this is a balancing act.

Stuff has to be easy enough to get so that people will do it, by the same token hard enough to get so that the entire game won't be doing it at the expense of the rest of the game. This is the flaw right now with the Fractals. Everyone is doing it, and the rest of the world suffers.

I'm confident changes will be made to fix this stuff and I'm a patient guy, that's why I don't rave about it. I know it will be fixed and over the course of a game's lifespan many such adjustments will have to be made. But it all comes down to how long getting certain items should take...what's reasonable to expect people to wait to get them.

And you know, because everyone has different tolerances, no game company will ever get it right for anyone.

What would be great is if they made it so the less people attacking a mob the better the reward. This way instead of huge zergs moving back and forth between the champions you would have smaller groups spread out hitting more of the map.

Yep, this would be a change I could get behind.
