I also hope that this forum won't die off because too people have decided not to play. I've seen too many good groups and sites die off over little things, its starting to look like it might be happening here, there seem to be a lot of members announcing that they won't be playing anymore.

As has been mentioned, the game has only been out a couple of months and there is still a lot that needs sorting out. ANet obviously felt they had to release early to get ahead of MoP and I feel that they are only now starting to do the final sortout of things as well as trying to get new stuff in place for those that have already reached 80. In my opinion it still needs time to settle down and maybe they always intended to bring in the assended items but they weren't ready at launch, but that is something we will probably never know. I still intend to keep playing and hopefully in 6 months time we will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about

Oh and Centaur, look on the bright side, your thread may have been deleted, but at least that means that someone saw it and probably read it too.
No, the fact they don't want us having fun in a GAME is driving us away and having promises broken. Okay, we understand not all advertised features make it to launch, but come on! That's the nature of the GW2 mods, and /v and /b talked up GW2 so much because of sidekicking, rated PvP, level scaling, intelligent mob AI, WvW and siege warfare, nothing in the cash shop giving a competitive edge, etc., and they're disappointed in GW2 over there too.

Arrogant game designers... what else is new?

Maybe I'm just too easily satisfied. I take any hype with a pinch of salt and judge a product when its available and been around for a few months.

if in 6 months or so, I'm still having fun then I will keep playing, if not then I'll quit.

I accept nothing is perfect and enjoy it for what it is. I even still enjoy WoW so I must be good at making the best of what I have.

Which is why I'm quitting now. I am no longer having fun. There are too many things bothering me, and none of the 'solutions' that ArenaNet are working are making this any better. I just feel that ArenaNet are aiming at the wrong target audience with all these changes. In fact, I just noticed a link on the official forums that offers a great insight into what I feel is currently the driving force behind ArenaNet's decisions.
I will keep my eyes on this game, and if at some stage it does improve enough to fix the things that bother me most, I will return. If not... there are plenty of other things I can spend my time on that are more enjoyable.

Honestly, I wasn't going to reply to this because I feel like we've all been over these things in other threads. But the quote in OP's post is pretty much everything that I've been saying since the start. ArenaNet is really dropping the ball here. People are quitting, and not just like random people, because of course people are going to come in and out of a new game.

I'm talking about people on this forum, who; after getting to know them over the months I've been around, I never thought they'd quit. Especially not this early into the game.

So quoting devs (including links to the original articles) is now a 'staff callout'? So you'd better be careful if you quote a post from any of the devs on the official forum, as you can get infracted for that!
That's so stupid! Basically they messed up and lied to everyone and they don't want people to know about it. That's ...wow.

I think a lot of you are really jumping the gun. Some of the stuff you're complaining about hasn't even been implemented yet. Wait at least until it's even available and see how it really effects things before deciding to "jump ship" over it. Sheesh.

Bottom line is, if you're quitting over something that might happen, I feel sad for you. If you're quitting because the game is no longer fun for you, then that's exactly what you should do. It's silly to play a game that isn't fun for you. Quitting for any other reason though just seems silly to me. But, that's just me. :P I'm still having fun with the game and will be playing for quite some time, I'm sure. I'm sad to see people go, but it happens in every single game ever launched.

I have read the post you're referring to. I've read it months ago when someone posted it here already back then. I agree with some parts of it, I disagree with the black/white view of it. The writer of that article has given a good breakdown of MMO gamers that we can work with. But here's the catch that breaks his argument. WoW holds top tier level gamers for almost a decade now. The top level guilds in WoW are beyond those Locusts. I'd categorize myself in that hardcore gamer section, and we would not even invite people in the guild if we thought they were locusts. We didn't have a terminology for the type of player, but I'd look at an applicant's character progression closely and if he doesn't show some dedication to the game, I'd know he'd be gone in 2 weeks after we've carried him through the content and would not invite him.

WoW is actually the worst example of it, and if that author had any clue of what he was talking about, he'd know it. The huge flight of players from WoW during Cataclysm had little to do with lack of content, difficulty or anything else. Most of the content hasn't been cleared by most guilds on all difficulty levels, Ragnaros had to be nerfed into oblivion. The reason why players left are deeper than this Locust argument goes. Players left because fundamental design decisions were not accepted, that is hardly the argument of a Locust saying the game isn't difficult enough or there is content lacking.

That is not the issue of GW2, though. And that is the point of this post, sorry for the tangent up there. This is probably what ANet is missing, if your assumption is correct. The locusts are long gone already, they're not, they must not be the driving force behind anything. The whole articule you posted should be ignored completely from a developer's side. The issues are many, but that particular detail is not one of them.

Well, I guess this is one place that you and I differ, Centaur. I'm still having a ton of fun. My fun is not based on an image of a company, but what I'm doing when I play the game. And playing the game is still fun for me. I'm not even terribly sure how the new content will affect my level of fun.

The one real downside to everything, for me, is that if legendary weapons get better stats, and you have to grind WvW and dungeons to get them, then I can't have best in slot gear without grinding. And that's my only real problem. For the rest of it, I don't know.

Dyes being account bound or character bound? I haven't bought a dye from the cash shop yet, and I have TONS of dyes on every character and I have a lot of characters. I mean do you really need to have 400 dyes on every character, because I don't. I have enough shades of each type on most characters to make them look awesome without ever having to buy a dye. That means unless I'm totally anal retentive about having every single particularly shade of purple, I'm fine. And with that I'm fine.

Because making a game is an iterative process things change ALL THE TIME. In the beginning, Guild Wars 2 had energy. They took it out. Very few complaints about it, because people LIKED that change. There are many many changes that have been made. The ones we like, we can over look those. Anet didn't lie about those. Shrugs. Changing your mind is not lying. They talk about their game, they make some decisions, they change some decisions like every other company on the planet. Thinking a company is never going to change their mind about anything is blind devotion. That's something I don't have, and never will.

I'd rather have the dye system we have today than the original account bound one where we could only grow one dye a day, and had to wait a day to see what that dye was. I hated that. I'm glad they changed it to what it is now.

I agree the game has changed, but it hasn't changed in any way that's affected my fun. Your fun in game seems to be wrapped up in your view of the company. My fun in game is wrapped up in that I'm enjoying myself in game, no matter what happened out of game. The same stuff I enjoyed doing before the patch, I'm going to enjoy after the patch. WvW won't change for me. Dungeon runs won't change for me. Playing around in Orr and exploring won't change for me.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but I've always known the game would change and evolve and some of it I'd like and some of it I'd hate. I loved what they did on Halloween and thought it was probably the best holiday event I've ever seen in any game. I had fun. Does this new update negate that? It doesn't for me.

I'm not saying your points aren't valid, except for the dye one, which I consider petty. I'm saying that you're choosing a short list of things Anet changed their mind about that you don't like. You're not including a short list of things they improved upon that they said the were or weren't going to do, that you do like.

A bit strange holding Anet accountable only for the changes you don't happen to like but not looking at the changes they've made that actually improve the game.
