Well I wouldn't use this forum as any sort of litmus test. The official forum is much more vocally against this move then it was ever for "grindy" content. But maybe you ARE right. It's just that you're also making flawed assumptions becaues you have no clue how many people just have no idea that a new tier is being introduced.

The same people that don't participate in the forums and people assume they are "happily playing the game" aren't as up to date on the info and either didn't or still don't know that Ascended gear is coming and what it means. They didn't see the german devs comments that more is prob coming. (and other Linsey commets)

So just because they're not complaining now, doesn't mean when these peopel catch on, the "backlash" won't be much bigger.

Or maybe it won't; who knows, but I;m just pointing out that your breakdown of why certain line of thinking is flawed, is also flawed as well.

All this really changes is the reach that AN will get. With the old promises and such, they had a certain base of clients that were going to buy and play this game. With the new stuff, this may change. It could be the difference in GW2 being as great and long lasting as WoW or GW2 just being that niche game like GW1.

Either way, for those who are happy they will keep playing. For those who feel betrayed and want none of this, they'll say FU and go play other games.

Life does and will go on

9000 posts is a lot of complaining, I anticipate the fallout to be HUGE and I believe it may even sink the game into extremely low numbers.

Many people played this game because of the no ties to grind, probably the majority.

I was all for more things to do, but I think most of the current fan base will seriously consider the future of GW2.

I bet people who WvW will be pissed, getting steam rolled by better gear.

Yeah but a lot of them are like the same people just arguing with eachother and posting over and over.

I would count them all if I had time, still must be a lot.

I don't think so.You pointing out that the debate, forum wise, is cyclic doesn't really effect that. It's stating the obvious.Point is people are posting speculative hypothesis as actually having relevant merit on debate and the games status/future.They are posting speculation.Period.

I have similar concerns, but I'm saying why don't we all wait and see what happens before committing Tyria to death and tumbleweeds.

This only effects people who are running with exotics as the Legendary armor stats will be boosted.

For those who have Legendary only.. they won't see it as a gear grind at all

And I should clarify that I don't think this will end GW2...I think the new content and the new gear brining in players that may have left will be a boost in the short term. BUt since it seems fairly obvious that more gear will come, they question comes down to, how many originally non grind people will stay and how many will leave? It's ALL speculation at this point and I'm not calling it one way or the other.

but I will call this (people are free to disagree) that the game play and feel of the game will chagne over time. If you attract gear grinders and more elitists to the game, don't be suprised when chat and WvW and other aspects of the game also change. (again long term) Since AN is seemingly now targeting a different demographic, I don't think its any stretch to logically deduce that this playerbase will be DIFFERENT than the current one. Different how? I assume more elitist and toxic, but again, I admit that is speculation on my part.

So if GW2 becomes WoW 2.0 (not saying it will, not saying it's a bad thing - DONT JUMP ON THIS COMMENT) is that the same thing as GW2 surviving? Or is it a case of a different game all together while "original" GW2 that was around at launch really did die? Depends on how you think about it.

    I dig that bokiz.

It really is about how the player personally finds it relevant.I guess my major point of contention is that this happened in GW1.Slightly different mechanics obviously, as soon as gear grind is mentioned a shit storm usually ensues, but it didn't kill that game.In many ways it made it better and it certainly kept players coming back to play more than people who disliked it left.

It also had little impact on the casual majority.

If you personally owned this game and business it would be pretty easy to see why this could be a good thing. It's about not only stating one's personally subjective opinion but also taking into account the mechanics of the non-subscription model and what what keeps players coming back.I think many here find it really hard to distinguish the two. They personally hate it so it's a crap idea, and everyone must feel the same....or else.

I think people need to keep this in mind. The majority of complaint I've seen in this thread is highly selfish and self-motivated.

At the end of the day all MMO's evolve.Adapt or move on I say. That's after arguing the time versus skill changes in GW1 for years though so maybe I'm just less angst as many here, one could even call it jaded and dismissive I guess.

    *goes to farm mats*

    :P
