And I think ANet is making a colossal error in judgement if they think that's the core of the problems and the solution for it... gear progression or treadmill, doesn't matter. The people that like gear progression will be done in a week or two and the people that don't won't be. After those two weeks, the underlying question will still be "Now what?" for most of them.

I agree...there has to be a continued grind of some category, or people will simply get bored and leave.

Keep it rewarding, keep it fair, and yes...do what you can to not screw over others. PvE Dungeons might have to be scaled somehow, and as for PvP....there is no open-world pvp so you're safe from getting ganked by someone with superior gear/skills.

As for WvW, well....God help you I guess, LOL

Well I don't think this is for the hard core gear grinds, this is my point. It's more for people who have exotic gear, because that's not hard to get, but look at legendaries and think, ummm no.

For every PVe'er who's going to go into WvW to get badges, do you know how many people, even in just my guild, have no interest in EVER going into WvW..yet you need to do that to get any legendary weapon. Which means that many PVE'ers who have no interest in PvP at all, are lmited to exotics PERIOD. That's not what Anet advertised either.

There are people on forums complaining about world completion, because you have to go into WvW. Do you really think those same people are going to go and get 500 badges to get a legendary.

There is simply a missing gear level for PVe'ers who never want to PvP.

Plenty of people participate in WvW with masterwork and rare mixed, while others have full exotic gear. I don't hear people screaming about that. This will be more of the same.

And this is going to change their boredom... how? As I said, gear is not the problem. Neither is gear progression. I would lean towards a pro gear progression side, but I don't see this changing anything about the game that I'm criticizing. It's not just that they're completely missing the point, which is bad enough. What's worse is that they're also wasting resources on missing the point, while at the same time artificially creating a massively controversial conflict. And seldome have I seen players so agreed on an issue. This is more and more developing into a pitfall and the question is not if they suffer reputational damage but how much...

What works for one person doesn't work for lots of others. As long as you give people stuff to do, even stupid stuff, they'll keep doing it. Farmville proved that. There are a lot more people playing that than all MMOs put together. Just give peiople something to do.

And we don't even know how good or bad this is, because no one has been in the dungeon yet.

People really need to just calm the fuq down. Look, gear progression is only a bad thing when there's nothing else to do in the game. As Vayne keeps repeating over and over like a broken record, there's A LOT of stuff to do in this game. I mean there really is. People that don't care about progression can EASILY ignore this and still have fun.

It's really not that big of a deal. At least not YET. When and if it becomes a problem, we can all freak out about it. People were initially mad about it, but that was more because ANet is awful at explaining things. And they had every right to be. Now that it's more clear on what this actually is, I don't think anyone can really say it's a deal breaker.

And the Legendary complaints are just ridiculous. I mean seriously, it was the stupidest idea in the world to have to work your ass off to get a Legendary only to have the same stats as some scrub that bought an exotic of the same weapon type on the TP. It's not like they're only available to specific people, anyone can put in the time to make it. There's nothing wrong with them having better stats.

The farmville style of play may suit you, but it doesn't seem to satisfy most of the other gamers.

But that's my whole point... once you've reached a certain stage, there really isn't. Once you've got world completion, you've done all the dynamic events (at least every single one that I could find/trigger, and I've been though every single zone with a comb, multiple times), played through most of the personal story paths, done all the dungeon paths (once)... what is there really, other than the grind (and pvp, which doesn't interest me at all) ?
That was one of my points with the OP... this game lacks long term goals for people who are NOT interested in grinding for gear, and this game lacks reasons for going back to lower level zones and replaying the content there.
And ArenaNet isn't addressing that... instead they are only adding more grinding to the game.

If Legendary items had the same stats... now that would be stupid. How good the items are should scale with how hard they are to get. It feels stupid to even point out something so basic. People are losing their minds if they think busting your ass off should yield the same reward as not doing so.

Also I just want to say, I love that they are adding ascended gear. I was so happy when I read it that I geeked out and mailed the link to all my friends who play on facebook. It is wonderful news. I was very surprised when I came to the forums and saw that people had found a way to turn this into something bad.

I see that there's no point in asking people to keep the whole gear progression discussion in the Ascended Gear discussion thread. So let me approach it differently:

I don't see any reasons for having 2 threads about the same discussion. So does anybody have anything useful to say about any of the other points from the OP? If not, then I'll just close this thread.
