If the only thing you needed infusion for was for that dungeon (while still a stupid mechanic) I would be fine with it. They could have made it so people that need the grind would have to do it to infuse their exotics. But They have also bumped up the stats which will effect other parts of the game.

You can say the grind isn't mandatory which is true. Nothing is mandatory, if I wanted to I could sit in the starting area on 1 character and never progress at all.

This line of reasoning is so true for so many things, actually. I've used the same reasoning for raids, but apparently, you can't just sit there and ignore raids in WoW...

I can't answer about WoW but I can answer about Rift, at least when I played it. If you didn't PvP, and you were a PVe'er the ONLY viable content was dungeons and raiding, period. Probably not true now but it was certainly true when I played it.

I could, of course, ignore dungeons and raids, but there was pretty much nothing else to do. The world events required a number of people to do them, and because they were seen by Trion as pretty much a stepping stone to dungeons and raids, the rewards reflected that and no one did them. I had already hit my currency cap for planarite, the rift currency and there was NOTHING to buy with it that I didn't already have, including several variations of the same mini pet, because, as I said I was at max.

So yeah, I could have ignored dungeons and raids, failed events over and over again because you couldn't do them with the number of people participating, or I could have done dailys..which took half an hour a day, to grind out currency for rewards that weren't as good as what I had already.

What a great choice Rift gave me. Now I can't speak for WoW, but I pretty sure dungeons and raids are the focus of the company, and maybe some PvP as well, I can't say.

I'm not an expert on WoW or Rift, but at least with Rift, I had months of experience, hit level cap and was raid ready.

I haven't logged on to see the new update, have they added any real incentive to play the existing dungeons or go out to play world events? I didn't see anything in the notes suggesting it and if that's the case I wonder how much more deserted they will be over the next couple of months while people are grinding the new dungeon for ascended gear.

That really sums up a lot of my take on this issue tbh.

Do I agree with the changes being made, highly debatable even within my thoughts and opinions, but I get why many are disillusioned.

What I have really observed is segregation between those that have have seen this all before in GW1 and those that did not.As an ex-GW1 player this was always going to happen and it would be the opinion of many forum members concurrently saying that it's the "end of the world" game wise.On top of that many here seem to have embraced GW2 and Anet for being outside the square in this regard.

As I have stated earlier Anet already discovered years ago that is not what keeps the majority playing in a non-subscription model. You have to have something like this to keep the game relevant and the people that made the game you are now commenting on paid.

It does baffle me that many posters seem unable to see outside their own highly subjective opinion and just take a step back and see why such mechanics make sense in a business model akin to GW2.

In the long run it's actually a good thing based on actual game history and repercussion.Conspiracy theories aside.

I was there for the PvE skills in GW1 and while I agree it was somewhat of a similar switch it was still a very different animal.

The PvE skills were pretty easy to acquire so everyone could have them right off the bat but if you wanted to make them more powerful you had more of a reason to rerun all of the content. You had just as much reason to play the open world as you did the dungeons.

I fully expect that PUGs are going to be completely shit out of luck trying to find dungeon groups for anything but the new dungeon and the open world events will be even more barren because people are now focused on the "end game content" that is 1 dungeon.

This is the difference, yes they introduced the grind in GW1 but rather than splitting the population even more, it was giving people that have seen it all more of a reason to go back and do it again.

That is a really valid point dude.I totally agree.

It was far more encompassing of the game as a whole as opposed to one specific area.My question though is do you honestly think it will be that dramatically game changing that the majority of the players and player base will all be huddled around one area/dungeon while tumbleweeds are rolling across the rest of Tyria?

Point being that when the EotN PvE skills were truly implemented, I'm talking maybe 3+ months later once the dust had settled, was it really that bad?I could still pretty much PuG anywhere I wanted.Again I think people are really over-exaggerating and over-hypothesizing the repercussions entailed here.

Dungeons are now a great way of making gold and the drops are much more appropriate too. Monsters drop little bags that you open to get gold (well, silver), karma, dungeon tokens etc. Vets and CHamps out in the open world have also had their drop rates reworked so you're much more likely to get something good now.

This is not quite truth, Vets and Champs are not dropping anything even white trash, maybe a bug but they are not dropping anything right now as we speak.
