Doesn't matter if it's confined to one area, if you still need to acquire the gear to play the content rather than just infusing exotics it's still a problem.

Do you think it would be better if you had a new condition that needed a new set of armor in every new dungeon they release? I'm sure it would be better for A net, imagine all the inventory slots people would have to buy.

the only way you can possibly look at this as a good(using that weird loosely) thing is it might get some people playing but it still doesn't change the fact that no matter where this leads it is a very dark road.

You -don't- NEED the gear to play the content. It's not until like difficulty level 7 that agony starts to kick in. I ran level 1-3 with a LEVEL 19! Obviously that'll change after this weekend when people are no longer up-scaled, but it's like any other dungeon at first.

Pretty sure whatever this is, it isn't "official".

You don't need it to start playing the new content, but you definitely need it to be able to continue to play it. The further you get, the harder it will be without. Skilled players will be able to continue a little longer without the new gear, but eventually even they will need the new gear to continue.

No you don't. You can replay any difficulty level you've unlocked however many times you want to. The only reason you'd need the gear is if you want to continue into the difficulties that require it. The maps are all the same, they just get harder. You can ignore the agony difficulty levels completely and replay through the ones that don't require gear endlessly.

Everyone gets to see the same content. The hardcore get to push forward and increase their difficulty level/agony gear and get their level as high as they can for E-Peen sake. Everyone is happy.

You seem to have a hard time grasping the word 'further'. I don't consider replaying the same difficulty level getting 'further'.

And why would casuals care about getting further in the difficulties?

When we didn't know how this system worked, and it was just a new "tier" of gear. That was one thing. People were mad and speculating and then getting mad at their own speculation.

Now that it's out and we know how it works and there's no more confusion, there's nothing wrong with how it's set up. No one is gated from content. I don't know why they chose to increase the stats on the two new pieces of gear, but it's irrelevant because it's not required to see the content.

The point is, you get that stuff, playing that content. This means it's self-contained. It's like any minigame in any guild wars.

In Guild Wars 1, you had brass knuckles with Kilroy and got better brass knuckles doing the dungeon again, which helps in hard mode. But so what? It doesn't affect anything else in the game. Suppose there were ten, fifteen levels and each time you got better brass knuckles. If you liked it, you got it by playing. If you didn't like it, you didn't play it. It's not a big deal, unless you make it a big deal.

If the condition makes the jump to other formats of the game, they'll give you easy ways to get it. I played 11 fractals straight and needed nothing to do it.

Calling this gear grind is simply disingenuous. The only thing you might say is that you don't get the same stats outside the dungeon doing it. And if those stats aren't required to do other content, this entire thing is a non-issue.

Except the gear is better than what you can get anywhere else in the game, and they've stated that Legendaries will be promoted to be just as good. There's no question this will have an effect on WvW and potentially people running Dungeons, and over the long term reduce the difficulty of all PvE. It also effects the future strength of Legendaries, making them materially better in their slot than anything else in the game.
