Yep, you're not alone in that. A lot of people had problems. Sucks for sure. The same exact thing happened on the Rift world events. I really think Anet needs to rethink how these work.

I get Centaur's argument. I am by nature a competitive person, but I have zero interest in an ever-increasing gear cap. I want the best gear, but I'd rather just not have it (and not play) once it becomes a chore to get. And battling stat creep always feels like a chore to me. If I want to "keep up" then I have to choose efficiency over fun.

It's also always been important/a pleasure to me to have one character at least that can go everywhere, help with anything. If I don't grind these dungeons there will be a point where I can no longer hop in to help a guildmate because my personal skill at playing my character is made irrelevant by a mechanic.

    Boo hiss on that.

I get his argument too, but saying the company lied implied intent at the time something was said. Let's pretend that there's something to this other company taking over and making changes. If that's true, then the guys didn't lie when they said it, they told the truth. What they believed would be the case...that's IF this is true.

Using hyperbole just to add emphasis to your point doesn't make your argument stronger.

I think the changes would sting less if they'd tried something else first, and made some attempt at maintaining the integrity of their manifesto. If someone promises you something, and they try really hard to make it happen but it falls through -- then, no biggie. I may be disappointed, but I certainly won't be mad.

It's the "trying" thing Anet didn't do so hot with.

I just think people need to try it before they banish it. Most of the people that I've heard complain about this are either casuals which it wouldn't affect, or dedicated players that don't care about gear so they don't want to have to worry about better gear. But most of those people that don't care about gear weren't running around with full exotics anyway, so I don't get how it affects them either since they were already opting not to have the best gear type already.

I mean if it rubs people the wrong way that bad then I'm not going to pester them to change their mind and if they leave, that sucks but oh well, I understand. Except for Ruse because . But I'm a firm believer of "You never know until you try".

I get this completely. I just wish I was privy to the conversations they must have had. I think the uptake on legendaries and people going for it was terribly low, giving them the idea that if there wasn't SOME kind of stat upgrade people wouldn't bother.

Once you get to that logical point, you have a choice. Make more cosmetic stuff that most people won't go for, thus causing most people to have nothing to work towards, or give it in such a way that it's not that big a deal and hope most people aren't offended...and most people won't be...but some will.

It's not like I don't understand the problem, believe me, I get it. I just don't think Anet lied to us. They set out with the intention of making cosmetic only rewards, which wasn't working.

As to other things they might or might not have tried, there are tons of suggestions, but not being privy to the conversations and meetings at Anet, we don't know why those weren't tried. And because I don't know, I don't judge.

Legendaries are, by intention, a long term goal. Even an active player of the game wouldn't necessarily complete it within the first three months, there's far too much to do. Judging its uptake at this point seems far too premature, and would only point to some very jumpy behavior.

Well, I have an excellent idea why they went the way they did, so I judge. lol. They could have at least waited to see how many got pulled back in by new content, and added oft-requested features in the cash shop. You know, the things people are asking to be able to throw money at them for.

You're mistaken. Back when I played (this was season 2 arena), there were no arena servers. I had to play in 2v2 arena with my partner with whatever gear I had earned on my own through grinding honor in the battlegrounds, and the weekly points allotted to arena players based on their weekly team score (I can't recall what the arena points were called off the top of my head).

Back when I was playing, there were always tons of complaints that arena score reflecting gear levels, rather than actual skill. Which was somewhat true. At least a full set of tier 1 pvp gear was pretty much required to break 1600 arena score, or you'd get your face smashed into the ground.

This truly is a mystery. I was expecting it to be like LoL. Every so often "Hey look! New armor and weapon skins! Mini Pets, ETC! You should BUY those!" "**** YEAH I'M GONNA BUY THOSE!".
