Thread: Issues with GW2

ANET has always held to the mantra of different avenues for people to play and different styles. I think that this is all to just satisfy one group of people. The other groups will still have new content to play and not have to worry about this.

That's all my speculation though. I'm pro GW2 right now. The only way this game dies for me, is if the servers die. I am far from bored.
I am neither pro nor anti GW2 :-) Arriving here from a land of endless gear grinds I am happy to take a break and do 5 person content for a few years, however I will point out that if I cannot obtain a stable connection to and groups for Fractuals I will eventually quit. I am giving it about 2 months.

If I can't even be in the grind either because my ISP dosen't like the game (and I have 50mb up/down service) or because I play a stinky Ranger then I'm out of here.

As I've said before, I tend to lead dungeon runs and I never pay attention to what class people play. I've had many successful runs without being "classist" so I have no reason to start doing it now. If someone pulls that crap with you that's their fault. If you see it happen a lot, screw them and join my guild, because we run dungeons all the time and I guarantee you none of us will ever do that.

That's the problem with not being in a guild. If you pug all the time, then you simply end up being at the whim of hte masses. And masses suck. A decent guild doesn't exclude people because of their profession. I run dungeons with my ranger all the time. I've seen most of the fractals already with my ranger. That's because I'm in a guild.

All this content can be done with rangers. I had a good time. I participate. And I have fun with people I know, who learn to work together.

I never really understand why people insist on pugging and thing this is better.

I don't think anyone thinks pugging is better, it's just a matter of convenience. There are times I'm on when my friends aren't. I do have other friends playing on another server at the same time but since we are still waiting on guesting that does me no good.

I know I can join a couple more guilds if I really wanted to but pugging has worked fine for me up until now.

You might say "hey its F2P so it don't matter how long you actually play". Wrong... less people play = less game activity = eventual game demise.
Taking those two passages to illustrate 2 points:

MMO developers have GOT to learn that end game has to be there at release. I'm sick of amateur clubs going into crunch and saying "Oh we'll fix the end game once the game is live". WoW got away with it because there was little else to do except EQ. And they only JUST got away with it, 2 months more and people would've dumped the game there and then and it would never have picked up the momentum that keeps it going till now.

And the second point... your equation is EXACTLY the concern I had before this game came out. And Vayne might remember me saying the exact same stuff. Just pointing it out...

Honestly if I had to pug I'd probably quit MMOs. The experience is too uneven for me. I play games to have fun. I have fun with my guild. I have fun with random strangers occasionally but not often enough to want to do it. I play games to relax. Pugging will never be relaxing to me.

I think the difference is there's nothing I need to do so badly that I can't wait for my guild. I have plenty of solo stuff on my list, or small group stuff, where I play with only one or two guildies if there's not enough to do a five man.

I know I said it was for convenience which is the main reason I do it but I've made a lot of friends through pugging. My guild from GW1 came from meeting a couple people in a pug and eventually drawing more and more people together until we just made our own guild.

Of course we recruited like everyone else but our core group was made up of a handful of us that started off from a pug.

That's pretty cool. I still like having a group of friends who do stuff together, rather than just sifting randoms. I mean, if you join a guild, you get an idea of the direction of the guild. I wouldn't join a highly competitive guild with a list of rules any more than you'd join my guild. I have a better chance of meeting people who share my play style.

I like to take my time. I don't run things. I don't like the go go go crowd and never will. And most pugs are interested in getting stuff done fairly quickly.

What's really needed is a LFG tool that allows you to check off boxes like beginner, casual, old and slow or whatever, so that you get in with a group of people who you can deal with, who can deal with you.

I'd love to see it. An LFG tool that's more like an online dating service than an LFG tool. I like candle light dinners, long walks on the beach, setting dredge on fire and buffing allies. I think it would be great. lol

Doesn't matter when talking about running dungeons. You can run with people from other servers. I have people in my guild from other servers and we run together all the time.
