    Question about "Tagging"

If I am understanding correctly, the amount of loot you get from a dynamic event boss, etc. is based on the tags/damage you are able to place on it? Is that right?

I ask this because of the event coming up this weekend. I believe that players are to be scaled up for this event, but what does that mean, does it mean that you will be level 80 but only have your lower level skills and such? I am fine with that. I am lower level, much lower in fact, lol since I am taking my time and not rushing to 80. I think it would be fun to participate in the event even if I did not get anything but experience just so I could see what it was like.

Don't get me wrong, I love loot! I just wondered if that was how tagging actually works. It seems to me that if you do not have a powerful AoE attack, or something akin to that, you are pretty much screwed when it comes to dynamic events and such. Is that just a misconception on my part?

You are correct, each monster has a damage table and a threshold value of damage done to it by the player before it will give full credit for the kill. This value is about 5% to 10% of the monster's health. I believe once you are scaled up you would have access to all skills im guessing.

Thanks for the clarification garrettstocke! Was my assessment correct about the AoE damage being the best, for the most part, in tagging or am I way off base? At the moment I only have a Ranger, and just started a Mesmer and am still learning how things work lol.

    No problem!
And to answer your question about AOE tagging, yes it has its advantage obviously because the more targets you can hit and do damage on, the more loot you can get.

Thanks yet again for taking the time to answer! Guess I am going to have to make an Elementalist lol and/or do some research into what professions have the best AoEs. I wanna try all professions anyway lol so that gives me an even better excuse to do so lol.

Keep in mind that tagging lots of stuff to get loot, and making an ele, because you can, may be counter productive, if you end up spending five times more money than a gardian in gear repair. lol

LOL! How true that is. I will more than likely stick with my Mesmer and ranger for now lol, and yeah I really should go a heavy armor class next. So far I only lost my pants once on my Ranger. That will teach me to pay more attention to my armor lol.

Doesn't anyone else think that the tagging through just damage a bit unequal across the classes?

During the weekends events as a necro i collected about 15-20 Kraka shards...the other two in the Group (ele and Guardian) got about 150 each. Ok kraka shards or whatever they were called are pretty useless..but a good indication of how the damage tagging is unequal imho.

Do not meddle in the affairs of the Charr because, to them, you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

I can confirm my Necro got hosed on the rewards/tags/kills in comparison to the rest of my party/guild. But I am used to as we farm Orr alot and I get the same results where I come in around only 10% of the loot/damage/kills compared to the guardian, warrior, and ranger in our most active group. I love my Necro though and have learned to cope.
