Thief or Engineer?

I like playing a profession that has a lot of utility and Engineers have their turrents and Thiefs have their mines, grenades, etc. What do u think is a better or more fun profession to play? Also what race would complement each profession well?

I expect that this is too late to help you, but I have both professions and enjoy them both. My thief is a Sylvari and my engineer is Charr. They both have different starting areas which is a cool feature of GW2 so I would always recommend you create one toon of each race so you can experience the story and unique area.
