    Professions - any bad choice?

    hillo ,
Im new in GW2 world , and i know just a lil bit about the game.I usually play as mage , but ive learned that Assassin classes usually do well.
Im thinking about quit aion and come to GW2 , but first i would like to know about classses , just some stupid questions like:
1 - I like stealth classes so id like to know how Thieves do (Like they usually have stealth and lots of action like invisible and high damage-if you´ve Skyrim with full sneak u know what im talkin about)

2 - any idea whats the best in pvp : elementalist or mesmer?

3 - os there any differences between races?

    thank you ^__-

    Hi there,

There is no objectively "bad" choice. There is only subjective bad choices - which is to say, a profession which you don't enjoy playing (note: classes are referred to as professions in Guild Wars). All classes can take on all roles - everyone can heal themselves, everyone can do damage, and everyone has support skills. The way you go about doing each of these things is different for each profession, that's what sets them apart. For example, to support a Guardian can throw up a magical wall and reflect incoming projectiles back at enemies. An elementalist on the other hand, will switch to water attunement and passively heal everything near him over time, and throw water spells that do both damage to enemies and heal allies near the enemy at the same time. A warrior could summon a war banner and place it on the ground near his allies, buffing everyone near it. An engineer could set up a healing turret, that shoots healing elixers at nearby allies automatically. They're all very unique ways of going about one particular role.

Stealth in GW2 is made short - this stops people from sitting in cloak all day long and just ganking with it. With short durations, people are much more likely to use it defensively in the middle of a battle, which sounds much more interesting to me. Other professions can cloak as well, but thieves seem to be the best at it. From memory, the ranger has some self-cloaking ability(s), and we've seen that even the Mesmer can cloak his/her teammates with an AoE spell in the newly released Mesmer videos (see guildwars2.com).

    2) Again, there won't be a "better" or "best" profession. Professions will be constantly balanced so if one is OP at one point they won't be soon after. Just choose what you think you enjoy. Mesmers are very subtle, indirect and subvertive - they're almost impossible to compare to a profession from any other series. Elementalists are the opposite, they are upfront and direct. They can swap elements to change their role in battle. Fire: AoE high Damage, Water: Support/Less-Damage, Earth: Tanking/Less-damage, Air:single target damage, I think?

It's a little early to be asking which is best for PVP. But i'm hoping it will be balanced.

Mesmer is going to piss me off so much in PvP. I'm going to think I'm fighting someone and then poof it's going to blow up into a bunch of pink butterflies and before I can turn around to figure out what the hell just happened, there's some dude who's like love child of a wizard and thief dual wielding swords and beating me down before I can do anything and if I do react fast enough, he's going to teleport somewhere else and fireball my ass...

    Jason....Mesmer will be amazing because

    A) It pisses you off and i will have so much fun sicking my exploding butterfly clones at you!!!!

    B)Repeat of A just because!!!

    C) and Mesmer will be such a good addition to not only a team, but it would be great going solo

No right or wrong. Whichever you will feel best with. for example: I HATE MELEE CLASSES. Why would I play it then? Healer or spellcaster all the way!

I'm with holy. Melee classes bore me to death. I could never get into one unless it was a thief. I've healed and casted spells from a distance for all of my mmo life. it's really a personal preference.

Yeah same here. Dwarf, you agree with me too much. Next you're going to tell me your Asura is going to be a mesmer!? If it's so, then prepare yourself...
