The purpose of Black Friday is to produce a better breed of consumer, so unfortunately, not all of them will make it. I blame capitalism gone wild.

I didn't specifically mean why now. I meant why not before they caused such a row. If they felt their profits were too meagre, they should have started pushing the gem shop earlier, as that's were the revenue will ultimately come from now that probably almost everybody who will ever buy the game has already done so. They should have tried to put more desirable things in there before pissing off all those who liked the no gear progression thing.
I don't think the gem shop thing has anything to do with the row. This sale has probably been in the works before this recent thing. They could have cancelled it, but what's the point.

One thing I'm pretty sure they wanted to be careful of is to make sure that it didn't look like the cash shop was a major priority. I mean it obviously is and has to be, but do they really want people thinking that way? It leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

But a sale on Thanksgiving Weekend? Not too many people would complain about that.

But note that if they gave the 50% discount on the "5 for 450", as well, you would get 5 for 225, or 25 for 1125.
Compared to that, the discount is only 28%, not 50%. So they used the price per 1, not the price per 5, for that discount. Please be aware of that.
Yup. Just double checked the math for this. That's kind of shady since 5 keys would go for 625 gems, but they already have a discount of 28% so they're going for 450. If you buy 25 I would think the discount with be exponential, but that's not how they did it.

Possibly because I've been in retail my entire life, I don't see this as anything out of the ordinary. You discount a quantity and you discount more off a higher quantity, you always advertise the discount off the base price, not the discounted price.

You don't advertise five of something for 10% off and then advertise ten of something for a discount on that 10%. You never advertise a discount off a discount. You advertise the discount off the single unit price. I've never seen it done otherwise anywhere.

No, I agree with you. But I'm saying the base price should be much lower, before the new discount. It's like one of those stores where you buy things in bulk; if you have four boxes of candy bars in four sizes ranging from smallest to largest, why would the largest one be based off of the smallest box in reference to discount when the other three have prices that increased exponentially according to their bulk size? It just seems a bit odd to me. I would say the fourth box should be priced according to the other three, then discounted.

Possibly. What I'm thinking they should have done is shown the percent discount you get off the five pack and then the percent discount you get off the 25 pack, side by side.

So you have a choice in savings. That would have been the most "legit" way to go.

Except that they didn't do this consistently. Check the other items that they have on sale... the discount percentage there is on top of the already discounted price for that quantity, not on top of the base price. This is the only item in the set that's inconsistent with that.

Well, that's relatively stupid, since it would always advantage them to show the biggest discount. The wreaks of sloppiness, if nothing else.
