Thread: city clothes

    Question city clothes

I came across it on guild wars 2 wiki sometime ago, but I was just wondering whether anyone else here know about these town clothes that every character is gona have as their secondary equipment

Yes, it's true... when in towns/outposts, everyone can have a separate set of clothing equipped. So while you're out adventuring, you will be in full armor, but when you're in town, you can be wearing a 3-piece suit, a trenchcoat, rags, or whatever you feel like. There will be as much variety in town clothes as there is in armor, so you can mix and match clothing pieces to get the combination you like best... and just like armor, you can color them to your own liking.

One thing I really enjoyed about EQ2 was that the armor you had on could be covered by a 2nd set of armor so that you can choose what your armor looked like. Just like the city clothes on GW2. What got me really excited is the fact that now only do you get that 2nd set of armor/clothes like in EQ2 but in GW2 you get to dye them, making your toon look even more unique. I'm looking forward to seeing what people will come up with.

...I'm not gonna lie, this is one of my favorite features that I'm looking forward to. The more options to play Barbie, the better.

Now if they say we get players houses and we get to decorate them, I'll be in haven.

You do have a "home instance" for sure. Humans are in Divinity's Reach, Asura get a lab, etc. etc. I dunno about decorating though. Supposedly trophies and such are added from your adventures, but here's hoping I can move furniture around too.

Thanks Centaur, and I'm in love with this feature aswel.
Isn't the home instance meant to be like a district your character is from, and not a house; well that's what I got from all the info they have released so far But if it is a house, ah it will be just like a little doll house
Kinda off-top now, but if they can give a mount as an accessory which doesn't affect character in anyway it will be cool.

Mounts would be great but sadly we're not going to get them. The devs said there will be no mounts when the game goes live and there are no current plans to add mounts to the game in the future but they will keep that in mind. When a dev said "we'll keep that in mind" I always assume that's a nice way of saying no.

The home instance is a personal (instanced) area in the main city of your character's race (eg Divinity's Reach for humans). It is different for every character... its looks are entirely based on the choices you make in your Personal Story missions. It does include your own house (or lab, if you're an Asura), but as Ruse already stated, as things stand right now, it will not be possible to decorate the house yourself. That may change in the future, though:

From a translation of an Italian interview:

Q: Will players be able to decorate and personalize their home instance by acquiring particular objects from merchants or by crafting?

A: Right now we have no plans for players to be able to specifically decorate their home instance. That’s not something that will probably get included in the initial release of the game. But things like that are things that we’re constantly looking at as option for Guild Wars 2 in going forward.
And mounts will definitely not in the initial release. This is what community team lead Martin Kerstein said on the topic of mounts:

Since I am not that deeply involved in the development, I cannot say much to that. I know that our engine would be capable, perhaps with some further developing involved – like I said, I am no developer – to support mounts. Flying mounts… since we have a Z-axis I say it is not possible. My opinion is that while flying on mounts one loses a bit of the perspective for the world. If you are on ground level, you see how huge that charr citadel is, when it rises before you. If you fly over it with your flying mount, well, then it is just a building there on the ground. The perspective on the sheer size of the world is lost if you simply fly over everything. But that is just personal opinion. Mounts, like I said, not at launch, but we never said never. If we want to introduce mounts, we want to make it right.
