Guild Wars 1 and the HoM question

Hey,

I have never played guild wars 1 but have heard of the Hall of Monuments and got the general gist of it. But for when guild wars 2 is released what do these HoM poins actually give you? Is it just something in your personal instance that shows you have done it? Or does it make a differnece from what i know i highly doubt it will give anyone who has got 50/50 lets say an advantage in gameplay, but i dont fully understand what it will give you in gw2.

The things you get from the Hall of Monuments, are purely cosmetic... some weapons and armor with different skins than will be obtainable in the game, some pets and miniatures that look different than the ones you can obtain in the game, and some titles to display your achievements... stuff like that. So it's definitely more than just stuff for your home instance, but nothing that will give you a gameplay advantage (equipment with similar stats can also be found in-game, it will just look different).

Have a look at the Hall of Monuments website... just hover your mouse over the Reward Meter bar to see which rewards people get for unlocking the various stages.

Another thing to add to that is that the HoM achievements can be earned at any time. So after GW2 comes out if you get jealous of people and their vanity stuff you can go back to GW1 and get them. Also, after 30 HoM points everything else to be earned is a title and is also much harder to get than the first 30 points, so I've heard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you gotta have started on your HoM in gw1 before gw2 comes out in order to go back and get more!

As far as I know, there has been no statement from ArenaNet that would confirm this. The only thing we know, based on their FAQ, is that you will be able to continue earning Hall of Monuments rewards in Guild Wars after Guild Wars 2 is released. At some stage you will have to link a GW1 account to your GW2 account for this, but nothing that has been said so far suggests that that has to be done before the game is released. Why would people who pick up GW1 at a later time not be able to link their GW1 account to GW2 and enjoy the same benefits?
