hey.... sorry this took a while.
Any Intel system is going to be an i3-3220 and some $100-$150 Video card in combination with the best sale on each other part needed to build the system. Those are pretty obvious at this point.

This system will be much more enjoyable overall.... $550 isnt an incredibly high budget. Since you can upgrade down the line, I think you would enjoy this system for a few reasons. a) You can later add an AMD video card and run Crossfire with the APU. b) you can read up on how to overclock and achieve outstanding performance for the money spent. The system will last you longer. c) It has an SSD and will boot up/load everything ridiculously fast. This will give a great quality feel to a lower priced system.

If you go with the AMD build do not get a SSD it's out of your budget you will fill a 128GB drive up really fast, get 1866MHz memory it's the fastest the APU graphics can use so get the full performance. You can get lower priced parts and be close to paying for the operating system and be in budget.

The budget was $550, and the subtotal clearly shows $549, so how is it out of budget?
Many PC users are currently using 128GB SSDs and taking the storage hit for the impressive performance.
There is no need to constantly contradict anyone who does not have the same suggestions as you.

My build is just a suggested outline, as were yours. gabe can decide what exactly he wants to go with. There are now several intel builds and one AMD build. The intel has no potential for overclocking, the AMD has MUCH potential for overclocking. The SSD will not fill up any time soon, and another HDD can be added later as the prices continue to fall due to the flood inflation.

Most importantly, he said he doesn't even plan to use the PC for much more than games. Storage is not a concern.

My AMD build has a huge case, great cooling, and is ready to overclock. It can have a GPU added in Xfire and hard drives too.

upps I went $6 over but have a FX 4170@ 4.2 GHz, Samsung 840 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 1866 ram, and a 7770 video card.

EDIT parts are off sale now it's $90 more i'm not going to waist my time doing it again.
