The proof of consensual bit is always the hard bit for us. You laugh but you wouldn't believe the title of some of the books I've written. SSC (coughs)

I might. I live in the SF Bay area and I have been to all kinds of parties...

The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.

All I wanted to do after release was play.....but it's fading.I never had that thought in the 7 years I played GW1....ever.Sure there were fluctuations of motivation to play but I'm quickly finding more fun to be had in off-line games atm.GW2 is really a different flavor and I'm still wondering what to make of it.

    I'm hoping that changes.

In saying I went back to GW1 the other night, played some JQ and helped newer players out.Best fun I've had in an MMO in a few weeks.....but that"s just me.
Exactly how I'm feeling, except for the last part in that I haven't yet revisited GW ... maybe that's what I'll do now instead of grinding out my daily.

As a long time Guild Wars 1 player and fan, I'm not really surprised that some people won't make the jump. I would be surprised, however, if all that was out was Prophecies. Guild Wars 1, being 7 years old, has four full games to play with, which makes it quite a bit more robust as to both bug fixes and the amount of varying content. No three month old game will compete with a seven year old game, content wise.

But Guild Wars 1 lacks a lot of things that really hamstring it when it comes to being either mainstream or even particularly up to date within the genre. It's always easy to remember fondly the game you're no longer playing. Here are a few things about Guild Wars 1 I'll not miss.

    1. Lack of a marketplace...I will not miss standing around in Spamadan trying to unload stuff on people by spamming chat.

    2. I'll not miss having to run around a log, because I can't jump over it.

    3. I'll not miss Prince Rurik running into battle in missions, causing me to have to follow him before I was ready. How that guy lived as long as he did is beyond me.

    4. I'll not miss having to take specific heroes into missions in Nightfall, because the storyline required you to take those heroes. I'm one of the few who actually liked Koss, but not to fight beside.

    5. I'll not miss looking for the last guy in a vanquish, maybe a wandering patrol of raptors, the very last guy, who's always just ahead of you.

I can think of a lot more, but having played the hell out of Guild Wars 1, helping my guild get to 30/50 before Guild Wars 2 launched, I think that some of this Guild Wars 1 was a much better game is nostalgia, rather than actually looking at the game itself.

To be sure, Guild Wars 1 for its time did great things, but I've been back and aside from the nostalgia, or to help someone else, it's not nearly the game Guild Wars 2 is, even with three full games and an expansion.

The PvP-centric people, who enjoyed GvG like Firefly, are the exception to this, but for Pve, there's not really much of a comparison.

That post pretty much describes GW1 for me. I can't think of another game that I wanted to like as much as I wanted to like GW1 but every time I played it I just got bored right away and would quit. I think GW2 is aimed at a slightly different crowd and those that GW1 was a perfect fit for kind of got left behind.

Guild wars 1 was more of a pvp centric diablo right? I seriously do not know. I remember seeing top-down gameplay on the free demo i received almost 10 years ago.

I think the time has come for me to delete. From my old MMO; GW2 is just so much better. And I've played my other MMO for... wow... eight years. Time to move on!

Guild Wars 1 had a strong PVe base as well as a PVP base. Considering I was able to play it for five years, and I'm no PVPer. In fact, there are arguably more PVe'ers in Guild Wars 1 than PVPers, though it became known for it's PvP because of the popularity of the guild vs guild tournaments.
