If enough people are seriously thinking that a few months after release....well...nuff said really.

Maybe it's just play-style and motivational differences. I've lost count of how many times I repeated certain missions in GW1, for no other reason than enjoyment of the level and teaming/pugging as seemingly did many of the player base.It kind of scares me so many on this and other forums are stating "game finished." this early.

In a way I'm glad I've been too busy too play as much as others.

    Totally agreed.

I guess the difference for me, and the impression I'm getting from many, is that the lack of motivation to play is due more to a lack of in-game direction and motivation through actual game mechanics. Not in any one specific way but subjectively depending on the player in question.I don't see many saying..."Meh....the games just not my thing..." as opposed to "...really like it....but I'm bored/unmotivated to progress...Why?"

I mean the other night I thought to myself "I haven't played in a few days....but I'd actually rather watch Dawn of the Dead (Romero version.....of course) for the 122nd time"

Seriously...wtf?I don't think I've ever been so baffled by a game in a while.I love it but struggle to actually get motivated while playing it, unless guildies are around. This contradiction is what I'm trying to get my head around as I gather quite a few players are struggling with it.

It concerns me this is seemingly becoming a trend though. I've seen this issue raised a fair bit since release. Not sure I EVER saw a "man....bored....what should I do...." thread in any GW1 thread until the last 1-2 years.

A repeated theme a few months after GW2 release......not sure what to make of that yet.

Actually there are many I'm bored with Guild Wars 1 threads that popped up when the game was new. Just not recently because the only people playing it have made their peace with it. It's not like millions of new people buy that game to play it, and try it out for the first time without knowing exactly what they're getting into. Most of the new people in Guild Wars 1 were only there to farm points for the Hall of Monuments anyway, and most of them didn't like the game.

I can't tell you how many people in our guild bought the game to get HoM points and never played it, because they just didn't enjoy it. They were bored. It wasn't interesting to them. They weren't vested enough in the game to post on forums however, but there were plenty.

The difference is Guild Wars 2 was madly promoted and people put very high stock into it, so that of course, when they get bored in a month, they post. They thought they'd be playing for years. But most of our guild is still playing and enjoying the game. Very few people have stopped playing due to boredom.

I do agree with you that the game is more of a self-starter game, with less of a bread crumb trail, which people are used to. I also think there are a lot of people out there who just want a play ground, with a bunch of things to do that they find fun at any given time. This sort of game won't be for everyone, but as the age of the average gamer increases, it will likely be for more and more people.

I think you'll find Guild Wars 2 is in the process of finding its audience and it won't be hurt by the people who constantly need to be told what to do leaving.

Of course, only time will tell.

I agree to disagree because in all honesty I can't recall one.I was purely Guru back then though.I would also freely admit I was only checking out the forum once a month until shortly after Factions release so I may have missed those threads.

Ask around the guild about people buying Guild Wars to get their points and not even bothering because they found the game boring. We're not talking about one or two people here, but many of the people who bought the game for that reason found it hard to play. Both the hosts of the Searing Podcast bought Guild Wars and neither could play it. It was too boring for them. And that was a few hours after they started playing, not a couple of months. And it was before the launch of Guild Wars 1.

There are plenty of people who think that Guild Wars 1 is boring. I'm not one of them and you're not, but don't delude yourself. There's a ton of people out there who played the free demo and it didn't interest them enough to buy the game.

I was no big fan of GW1 myself (I also found it pretty boring, because I knew nobody who played it and found the story too uninteresting to catch me for a playthrough. I think I didn't even get to maxlvl) and I've been getting disenchanted with GW2 for some time now. Haven't played in a week or more, now. But to me it's not because of too little things to do. There are plenty of things I could do in the game, that I haven't done (like map completion (have around 40%ish, or doing all the dungeons (have done two), or whatever). But the question is whether you care for these things or not. I care for none of the two things I've mentioned, therefore I won't engage in them.

To me the question whether I have fun in an MMO basically boils down to 1 factor: Do any RL friends of mine play it. And, sadly, almost all of them have quit GW2 after two weeks because they found it boring. I know, Vayne will now come up and advise me to get a guild and I would agree with him. But then again, I find online-acquaintances mostly too tedious to bother with and am generally not a person that likes to socialise with strangers. And I'll just counter the upcoming question why I would play an MMO if I don't care for the social part of it by restating that I play it to play with my friends and basically to kill other players. PVE is not my cup of tea. I normally don't even touch the PVE part in a game that has the option to kill others online

But there is little wrong with the game itself. Of course, I have trouble getting into the story again. The GW type of story is a bit too archetypical stalwart hero-like. I like more multidimensional characters in stories and GW doesn't deliver that for me. But the WvW was generally great fun. The game has most things you'd expect from an MMO, but I never felt so drawn to it as I was drawn to WoW in its early years, or to SWToR in the first two months or so. It definitely lacks something (After all, most of my friends left quite early, therefore they must've found something lacking too) and I can't quite put my finger to it.

But maybe I'll manage to get back into the game someday in the future. I'll try

My girlfriend and I have both been in this rut lately...I think I've spent more time on these forums than in-game this week... But it is the holiday season and usually a lot of stuff goes on...shopping for family...friends...parties...work...etc...I can't wait to have a day to sit down and just enjoy the game all day....

I cant argue with you Bell, If you have no friends to play with, this game isnt going to be fun. Although, I lost my RL friends to different games a long long time ago. The friends I have that play MMOs now are all friends I made from other mmos. They share my same game type interests more then any of my RL friends ever could. Im sorry you cannot make friends in an mmo, cause that is where I found some of my best. And they are much lower maintanence then my RL ones.

I always refused to play GW1 because I couldn't jump. Now in GW2 jumping is a huge part of the game - awesome! lol

Could be a silly question bro but what do you mean by "points"?Never heard that term before. Are you talking HoM?
