Well I'm not sure what instance you are referring too, but I am guessing its part of your personal story line. So a few quick tips, first if you are having trouble doing the personal story line leave it and come back later.

Second there are lots of ways to get better and different gear. You can go out into Queensdale area and do hearts and events or just kill anything you come across and you will get drops. Some will be crap, some you won't be able to use and some you will. Another way is to craft it yourself, you can go out into the world and farm mats and learn a skill in town and make the gear you want yourself. Or you can open the Trading Post (the Lion Head on the top menu bar, 'O' key if I remember right) and buy gear for your level or buy mats to make gear for your level.

As for earning money the best thing is to explore. You are a human so explore Queensdale. Do hearts, do events, farm mats, kill random mobs and sell the drops. All this will make you plenty of coin. If you finish Queensdale, but aren't ready for Kessex Hills yet (the next lvl zone) go into town head to Lions Arch and then take a portal and explore another races starting zone.

There is no right or wrong way to play the game, just the way the lets you have fun and the way you don't. Lots of people will have 'right ways' for you to play. Try them, if you like them great if you don't well try something else. Most important thing about playing games is having fun, so have fun and cya out there.

Personal story quests all have a level in ( ) next to the quest. Check your level and the level of the story.

Guild Wars 2 wasn't designed so that you could do the personal story line continuously. Make sure you explore the world, do dynamic events and hearts, until your level is the level of the story you're trying to do, or even a bit higher.

    Good luck!

I have done that particular story quest and yes the spiders there are quite tough. I found it easier to pull them out of the barn and fight them outside where you have more room to run around/dodge.
