Thread: 2012 IGN Game of the Year Nominee

2012 IGN Game of the Year Nominee

Congrats ANet! While everyone is entitled to their opinions on what should be considered 'Game of the Year', Guild Wars 2 is definitely worth of this nominee IMO.

Hundreds of hours are to be sunk into this game. It never feels like a grind until the end when your trying to get certain kinds of loot. Yeah, the game has a considerable amount of bugs but do any of you remember launches for other MMOs?? If you look back, you will see that Guild Wars 2 has probably had one of the smoothest launches in MMO history when compared to other games!

ANet has created a game that goes way beyond your typical MMO. They have successfully created a very dynamic game with several options. You have your typical PvE, PvP, and Dungeons. But you also have World vs. World. Yeah, this can be a little iffy at times because of the distance but thats what adds strategy to this. Plus the idea of your server fighting another server in one huge war-like battle is an amazing concept. You have Jumping Puzzles. Probably half of the MMOs you play allow your character to jump. But has any game truly implementing platforming skills as part of the game? Possibly...but not to the extent of Guild Wars 2! Hours can be spent on trying to reach these goals. The treasure chests can be disappointing at the end, but you have to admit, getting that achievement at the end of each puzzle is the real prize...[SEE Goemm's Lab; Mad King's Clock Tower].

Best of all, they made the world feel alive. The cities are HUGE. There are citizens running around everywhere. Conversations you can walk up on (not to sound creepy). After playing SWTOR for months and then playing the GW2 Beta, I was shocked at the huge difference in terms of the world seeming alive. So shocked that as soon as I touched the beta, SWTOR felt instantly boring to me and became a job.

It is for all of these reason's that I personally feel that Guild Wars 2 deserves this nomination. Great job ArenaNet! You guys deserve it!

Yeah, this game rocks. I love it, 320 hours into it, two level 80s, and still going strong.

    GO ARENANET! and voted.

Gratz Anet on the nomination. I voted for the people's choice award, but man there's a lot of competition. And not everyone plays MMOs. This is where MMOs being niche virtually always comes into play. I can't remember an MMO winning the IGN Game of the Year ever.

Niche or not I can safely say that the IGN winners are almost universally horrible. Not that they are bad games but they almost never pick one of the 3 or 4 best games of the actual year. I have no idea how the voting works but it just seems horribly flawed considering what has won.

There are tons of ways to vote on this and none are less valid than others but most years they pick something and I can't even begin to understand what criteria they used and that isn't a good thing.

Well for one thing, this isn't the computer game of the year, it's the game of the year. Far more people have consoles, so games on console and PC have a clear advantage to any PC only game. In fact, PC is really a second class citizen to most console gamers.

You know.. I really hope they don't win. Not because I don't love ANet, but because SWtoR was granted that title by MSNBC last year for literally no real reason. Which was silly considering it's release date.

Also it's IGN and we all know that no one really likes IGN. So if GW2 was pronounced "GAME OF THE YEAR!" by a review company that no one likes it'll just be silly.

While it may not be game of the year, IMHO, its the biggest bang for the buck. Hackers are not really stealing game accounts, at least not like the did with Diablo 3. So the hackers are not turning the game into something unplayable Like the Call of Duty Series Multi player.

I go through my moods. Will play it lots, then take a break, but its always there, and free. I did put some cash into it, Got some gold, Got the Digital Plus, Just to support the company, and help get new content.

Hackers rarely steal game accounts in a way that game companies can really stop. The vast majority of game accounts are stolen by poor account/client security.

Amen to that. I quit playing Diablo 3 altogether because of it. I've told my story several times and I will always be glad to tell it again. I have changed my password a thousand times with that game and with complex passwords too and I always login to find my gold taken or items missing. And then I get emails saying my account was accessed from Beijing or something like that. Thanks Blizzard for asking for my authorization... (-.-)

At any rate, to us Guild Wars 2 will be OUR 'Game of the Year' and that is what matters most. Not to toot our own horn, but I'd like to think were a pretty awesome, tight-knit community. If not in-game, at least on these forums... :-D

lol...GW2 is the game of my life. Unless all of the good RPers are suddenly killed in a world-wide epidemic, I might not ever play another game, ever. And I have never in my life said that before!
