Low FPS/Lag

I'll be doing a clean install of Windows on the new hard drive. I'll be transferring my Documents and the like soon after. This way, there'll be nothing at all to cause conflict.

I just got my new HDD and am on a clean install of Windows 7. I'm installing Guild Wars 2 and MSI Afterburner right now. I downloaded AMD's latest drivers.

Later this week I'll be transferring some pictures, movies, etc back to this, but that's about it, so nothing that should conflict.

I'll post results soon.

I restarted my computer, and all seems well. I can run around LA with about 20 or so FPS. In WvW under heavy loads with lots of people, it dipped to about 15...though it's still pretty smooth. In nice open areas it obviously goes much higher, but I felt that in places where I knew it would be questionable, it'd be a good spot to look at what kind of FPS I was getting.

So I suppose now we're back to making the FPS better.

My settings are:

Animation: High
AA: Off
Enviroment: High
LOD Distance: Medium
Reflections: Terrain and Sky
Textures: High
Sampling: Native
Shadows: Medium
Shaders: High
Post Processing: High

try the "recommended settings" and also overclock.
should keep you above 30FPS. That card has lots of room to work with.

I want to focus on getting the max FPS for my current settings, since I tend to like what Environment, Shaders and a little bit of Reflections offer. I'm not fussed over medium Shadows or no AA.

For my overclock, I made the core clock go up to 945, and the memory clock go up to 1150. I didn't have to tinker with the stock voltages at all. Already in LA I've noticed an increase, bumped up to mid to high 20's and it seems smoother. I'll have to do some more WvW and test it out.

yeah, with your current game settings only an overclock will squeeze more frames out. You are supposed to average 30 in all situations for it to seem smooth to the eye. You may be asking a bit much of the card to demand that it plays to the settings you like vs. what it can actually handle.

anyway, with any overclock you need cooling, and you must test for stability. Take small overclocking steps at a time, and increase your airflow with more/better fans or perhaps a better case. Use the information on that other forum for ways to test stability.

I mean, in general the card does really great at what I'm playing it at, I don't feel like I'm asking it to jump through hoops. Even with low FPS, everything still looks fairly smooth---but then again in WvW I don't really have time to sit back and really analyze how everything's looking when I'm trying not to die. It's basically just WvW and LA that I need to squeeze a bit more FPS out of. It's basically when there's TONS of people and everything's going on...but yeah, I'll look into overclocking.
