I assume since the OP hasn't responded, that he's either gotten into the game or returned it. Either way, the advice given here is pretty good stuff, for those who have password issues. Banning all those compromised passwords was one of the smartest things Anet has done.
I know this sounds primative in this modern age but I have a hand written list on which I store my passwords and it's never been hacked . . . . .
As for password generation - I was issued a new password by my work for intranet access. Password was 1-2-3-4 first thing I changed! Be ceative in your password generation as there are a lot of suggestions that are good in this thread. I alway mix numbers, letters and characters in all my passwords now. That only minor problem with it is some places don't accept some of the characters I would use in my passwords. I.E. ^&*}{

Actually I don't think that's great advice....at least from what I read. A password like Beauty#22 is much easier for a computer to solve brute force that a password like "cabbage hates silly strings"; again that's just what I heard from some computer experts, I am not one nor play one on TV.Originally Posted by Gismo

Simple fact tho - people are more likely to use a password they can remember easily so they are more likely to use words rather than characters and the password cracking algorithms are written to reflect this. As you have called up a password there that in your opinion is "better" lets have a quick look at that shall we. As most searches done are for words ONLY your 4 word password will be cracked faster than the one Beauty#22 as the engine running through the combination will have to search the combinations of capital letter, letters, character and numbers.

They quote that as being "strong" passwords. Note there is not one complete word in there from the password generator. I aslo ran the passwords you put down and it gave the 4 word one a very strong rating simply because it's a longer password. It gave that Beauty#22 a strong rating despite it being some 17 characters shorter. I'll stick to what I said - mix numbers, letters and characters. None of those passwords will be refused by Anet as long as they have enough characters.
I forgot - another tip - when it says your password must be at least 10 characters in length, make sure that it is longer even if only by a couple of characters.

Sorry couldn't resist, but yes using symbols doesn't increase the strength of a password as a brute force attack simply tries it once, letters it must try 2 times. However the truely a truely strong password mixes letters and numbers caps on and off throughout such as. ZaPpa2zUlu5
Yeah, I agree but you have to be able to remember it and replicate it too!That's why something silly like the cabbage thing will work. Like the other poster said, different experts. Again, what I read was that the "leading experts" always tell you to use the Beauty22 type password because it's hard for a human to crack, but it's actually easier for a computer to crack. They did research and found computer brute force attacks handled Beauty22 much easier than cabbages love donkey sex or whatnot. But lets not derail the thread.
I almost always use nonsensical passwords that are random numbers and letters. After a while you just end up memorizing it.
it's like remembering your credit card or driver's license number. They just burn themselves into your brain at some point.
