Which profession is good for beating ranged-class?

Just back to play after 4 month. I have one 70's guardian toon. Anything changed?

I'm considering about creating new character. Some with high output damage beating ranged-class easily.

Can my old guardian do that with some build?

This sure is very noob and idiot question. But please answer me seriously.

Apologizes for my English. I'm Asian

If your talking WvW a thief with stealth seems like the easy way to go. Do you want easy or a fun challenge? A guardian should be able to hold his own

Both is okay. Easy kill sometimes mean fun for me too. lol

Thank for answered. more help are welcome!

Guardian 80 here using Retaliation build. Handles a lot of mobs easily. VS a player, its pretty much based on you experience with the build. All you do is stack retaliation when you start getting hit, hit the guy back till you either down him or he downs himself due to retaliation dmg.

Does not work well vs Skilled Glasscannon Elementalist/Thiefs and Mesmers(clones). Since Retaliation dmg is about 600-700dmg each time the enemy hits you (depends on your power - i currently have 3450+), you will actually have to use your PvP skills against these guys, otherwise you'll be dead in 3-4 hits.

Power/toughness/Vit gear works best with this build imo. Gears that have these stats are either expensive or takes a little bit of work to get. (WvsWvsW exotic armor has p/t/v on it but it requires a lot of badges. FoTM drops a p/t/v rings. TP sells necklace and rings that has this stats but are expensive.) Weapons with Power/Toughness/Vit also takes some work to get.

Thief is great for not getting killed, considering if you're in danger just stealth and run away. (hate, hate, hate that mechanic, but makes sense for that class)

But any class really should be able to take on a ranged class. Guardian definitely, and warrior would be another good choice. Agree about grabbing loads of toughness and vitality.

Roll a warrior. It's great against single person ranged attacks. Pop frenzy and then shoot them with the rifle. That person is dropping like a fly. Weapon switch to mele weapons and you're all set for most situations. They have decent traits, nice looking armor and are balanced nicely. Can't go wrong with them. (I don't play one btw)

With the exception of Guardian all professions have the ablity to fight equally well ranged or Meele and most players have a meele weapon and a ranged weapon equiped and can switch between them easily. If you are looking just to fight those ranged people better I think your best course of action is to use your utility skills. I'm pretty sure every profession has a reflect or block projectiles utility skill, with that active you can usually make short work of someone using a gun or a bow or even a staff ele (those skills will reflect fireballs the same as arrows)

On my thief I love dagger strom, as it not only launches projectiles, but reflects them aswell. Can't tell you how many times people (especially eles and rangers) just keep shooting at me while I spin killing themselves. I've even had rangers try that knockback arrow and knock themselves back

That's funny. As an ele, I actually love when thiefs pop dagger storm becaus I pop a reflective aura and then lay down my fire fields and earth bleeds...and the thief is taking condition damage the entire time while I'm sitting pretty. Then they stop spinning and I ride the lighting over to them...at that point they either stealth and run away or die.

I find the 2 pistol shooting thief elite much better (at least give me much trouble)...I always have to RTL away, heal up, wait them out, then pop my hounds elite and then get back in....and then again, thief runs or dies.

Conditions will bring me down on my thief (even though I have 16k hp which is a lot for a thief lol) they are the only thing that troubles me. But sadly very few oppents in my server wvw are actually decent fighters. Used to be fighting 2 or 3 on 1 was sucide, now (and I don't think I've gotten that much better in skill) I can fight 4 at once and win with little worry. Heck we were pounding on the western keeps inner gate in one of the borderlands earlier in the week, just 10-12 of us, they had 30+ inside (yes I mean they really had that many) and they portal bombed us, we killied them all and only 3 of our guys died. We have the talent but not the numbers anymore sadly.

Anyways, back to fighting ranged. If say I get a smart enemy like yourself that realizes his attacks are being reflected back and changes tactics so do I. If they close in I cancel DS and go to town with my daggers, if they decide to keep it ranged I cancel and go to town with my pistols (or vice versa if say I am fighting a strong meeler like a warrior or a guardian and I don't want to get close lol) I've considered changing worlds, but I like Darkhaven, and my guild is almost fully lvled up.
