The leveling in this game is not like other MMORPG's the curve is steady and XP earned is based on not just the level of the thing you killed but also your level. Doing an event in a starter zone at lvl 5 might earn you 200 xp, but the same event at lvl 50 will get you 1000 xp.
There are also boosts you can buy from the cashshop (or find in black lion chests) that increase XP earned for a period of time. Also if you are part of a guild the guild can spawn banners that increase xp earned as well. Food items can be eaten to earn more xp too. All these boosts stack with each other so if you really want to try and power lvl you can grab all of them you can and go to town, but just playing 3 hours a day 5 days a week should get you to lvl 80 within 1 month. But it isn't a race since there isn't really anything different to do at lvl 80 than there is at lvl 1.
