Some questions for devs regarding small details

    Hi everyone,

I regged for this forum because I have some questions regarding very little functions that are easily overlooked when an MMO is being designed, however are, as I found, very important in terms of MMO playability and user-friendlyness. (Btw, can I even reach the devs here? Sure hope so ...)

I'd also like to state that I WILL get this game (looks like I'll have to save for about 3 months, being a University student, but I absolutely will pre-order it, this stuff is awesome ).

Now, I don't know if anyone else had these questions yet, so I'll just amass them in one post. Any reply is most welcome. (I'm already sorry for the word wall below )

    1. Auto-arrange Inventory/Bank function
Sadly, I can't tell if GW1 has this function . While playing MMOs, and asking people, they usually say that while covering large distances, moving from point A to point B, they like to jump around a lot, and randomly press Character Screen, Talent, Skill and Bag buttons, and usually people (me included) like to keep their bag nice and tidy for easy access and organised style. However, having a large inventory of (in some cases, even) 100+ slots, it gets annoying to organise it one by one (as seen in an unnamed MMO ).

    2. Crafting quantity function
The prime example I could give here is Skyrim, wherein if you have materials for, say, 200 Iron Daggers, and enchants for all 200, you have to access the screen and select the item, the enchant, and the material over and over and over again, even if what you craft (in terms of materials) is exactly the same. That is no less than annoying. During my 8-years long MMO, and 11+ years long general gaming career, I found that having either a "Craft all" button, or an interface extension where you can set the quantity of the crafted items, or indeed both, should be included in a game that has crafting.

    3. Cross-styling Armor redesign
Now, the armor redesign function is AWESOME, and the coloring added as a bit of spicyness makes it absolutely wonderful. Can you name an MMO wich didn't do this one for so many years?
Being able to redesign your stuff is the shizz, far as I'm concerned, as I always hated looking like anyone else around me. Having these stuff is dreamy as it is, but I must ask - will we be able to cross-design armors (as in, giving the looks of a leather armor to a plate, f.e.)? Sometimes, if games had the function of cross-design, some pretty awesome "custom sets" could be made, wich makes character differentiation even more varied and can give someone with a sense of style a very distinct look (wich equals a high-level satisfaction ). If we also had this, our dreamy function would be pure golden satisfaction.

    4. Show/Hide Helm function
As I've seen and read stuff about clothing/armor design in GW2 (in fact, I've seen ALL the videos, and read ALL articles up until today ), I'm alredy pretty satisfied with how things look. However, I find it important to have the function to hide the helm graphics. That doesn't necessarily translate to "not liking a certain helm design" (knowing remodel WILL be in the game ), I f.e. don't waste at least 3 hours on the character creation screen to then watch a helm. Seeing the vids, it probably alredy is in the game - I just wanted to have a bit of confirmation on that one.

    5. Buy/Exchange/Stacking functions
Now, probably stuff that you can buy are alredy stackable. This is also just a confirmation on that one - I don't know if there will be a function/event like this one in, but let's say, if you have to exchange items for other items (like emblems or points in WoW), will you also be able to set the quantity there? It's pretty important to have a function not to waste my time clicking "OK" 253 times to have 253 items.
Also, I sure hope that all the stuff will stack at least to some extent (ofc, equipment can't, and that's logical and okay), and we'll have a logically designed inventory. That would be great.

    6. Hairstyle/color changing UI
I've also found during my long-time gaming history, that people sometimes just want some change, variety. Having a hairdresser / salon / barber shop etc. can easily provide that. You don't need many functions - just a hairstyle and hair color interface will do - and that caters to many players.

    7. Level-scaling/Accbound "Legendaries"
I've found during WoW, that many people have incredible status symbols rotting in their banks. The WoW "Legendary" items are massive status symbols, awesome items in general, and an awesome distinct style addition for your character, however, they're being neglected time and time again (wich feels as though as it's unimportant that I've worked months for a single item, since it's totally useless). Having owned a few myself, I felt that since they're easily replaceable, the importance of my month-long "deeds" just withered away with time.
Now, I also don't know if there will be these "incredibly hard-to-get and awesome" items (honestly, would be very nice), but if there will be, will they be account bound, and scaling? Sometimes, I find that stuff that's incredibly hard to get (month-long quest line, or farming - "Legendary drops" = ), should be both accbound, and scaling. If someone wants to roll an alt, they should at least have some persistent elements to the gameplay from their main, wich also makes the experience more distinct. "Whaa, see my big shiny axe? I got that with my main for working for two months! It's great to have it as a bit of help. Isn't that awesome?"
I sure hope there will be stuff like that (even though since I don't know anything about that, I'm talking out of my *ss right here ).

And that does it . If anyone else has things like these, I'd also like to see stuff I might've missed
I know I must've overlooked a lot of stuff when watching videos (sorry, I just CAN'T remember these from the vids), but there are also people who didn't watch and read everything you alredy showed us. Probably some are even interested in small "comfort functions" like these.
Seeing as you guys are open about your game ( ), It would be wonderful to know these little things too.
(Also, I remember a line stating "I've played the hell out of GW2". You guys really are awesome. Your game is awesome too. But could you perhaps please stop playing your game, and actually finish and release it? You could share, you know ... we want to play it too )

Thanks for your hard and wonderful work guys, hope it will be also a rewarding game for you, as it surely will be for us!

    Cheers

Hi RpR, welcome to these forums. As you're addressing the devs, let me start by explaining that we are NOT the official Guild Wars 2 forum (there is none) - we are just a community forum run by followers (fans) of the game. And although no one from ArenaNet has ever posted here, the community managers do claim to keep track of the various community forums, so your post should at least get noticed. That said, I will try to answer your questions as well as I can.

    1. Auto-arrange

This was not something present in Guild Wars 1, and as of yet we have no information on whether or not this will be present in Guild Wars 2.

    2. Crafting quantity function

Not known at this time. Do note that crafting in Guild Wars 2 works a bit different from other mmo's, where you need to craft 200 iron daggers just to level up your crafting skill, and then throw them away as no one wants them anyway. Leveling up your crafting skill should be considerably easier in GW2, and the whole system is set up with the purpose that you should always be able to create items that are actually useful to someone. So it's unlikely that you will run into many situations where you would actually want to create 200 of something. Because of this, it could very well be that the ability to craft huge quantities of something with a single click, was intentionally omitted... or not. As I started off saying, it's simply not known at this time.

    3. Cross-styling Armor redesign

What we do know is, that there will be ways to combine the stats of one particular item, with the looks of another, and that there will be many different kinds of looks in the game. But whether or not this can also be applied to items that your character could not normally use (ie. the looks of heavy plate armor when you're a light or medium armor profession) is unknown... though to be perfectly honest, I kind of doubt this will be possible. That would mess with the aesthetics of how ArenaNet want their game to look, and with the ability of players to instantly recognize the profession of fellow players based on their looks and their gear.

    4. Show/Hide Helm function
    and
    5. Buy/Exchange/Stacking functions

I'm fairly sure both of these will be possible. Both are possible in Guild Wars 1, and I see no reason why they would remove this functionality in Guild Wars 2.

    6. Hairstyle/color changing UI

There will definitely be ways to respec your character looks, but whether they will be freely available to everyone, or something that you would have to purchase from the in-game store (as it is in Guild Wars 1), is currently unknown.

    7. Level-scaling/Accbound "Legendaries"

Well, as I mentioned a bit earlier, Guild Wars 2 will definitely have the possibility to map the skin/looks of one item, onto the stats of another. So if you acquire a rare, awesome looking sword at level 40, then yes, you will be able to use that sword's skin on your level 80-stats sword. As for whether or not a particular item is character-bound, account-bound or freely tradeable... I'm sure there will be rare items in each of these categories.

Hi there, welcome to these forums.

    2. Crafting quantity function - yeah i agree about this, but its not really that important..right?...oh and one question, were u rushing to get dragon or deadric armor? ^^

    3. Cross-styling Armor redesign - this is one of the most important things for me in any RPG, to look good in your gear, im gonna spend hours on making my character and painting my equipment...and yeah we will have it *-*

    4. Show/Hide Helm function - The biggest problem evar! im playing skyrim now without a helmet (ye, even if i found all dragon priests masks..without web help!!), finished Dragon Age origins without a helmet, almost every rpg i played....was without helmet on my head. Im not sure will we have that option, but im used to play without it.

    6. Hairstyle/color changing UI +1

another useless reply ^^ hell yeah

Thanksez for your answers Centaur. Didn't actually know this wasn't an "official" forum (if the maintainers keep in touch with the devs though, it's at least a "quasi-official" forum ).
Putting aside things like fashion change and crafting quantity, points 4 and 5 are
    point 3 ...
Bound stuff will just have to reveal themselves. We'll see.
And Drow, yea, I was referring to games like Skyrim with the helm option (I completed it without a helmet too )

It's funny how it seems like the games that offer a ton of facial/head customization like Skyrim offer no hide/show helm option but games like WoW, which have far less customization, give the option to see your avatar at all times.

It'd be nice to see a show/hide option but my personal preference would be to see a "show in combat" option so while I'm running around town my helmet is equipped but hidden and as soon as I enter combat it is now shown, perhaps with even a quick animation showing me throwing it on real quick.
