    Greetings and Introduction

Hail GW2 community! I was away from the whole broad MMO scene for several years, but I've been back about a year now. Since my return, I've been especially excited to see the recently developed trend of free-to-play MMOs.

I started playing Runes of Magic in April, and played pretty hardcore for about 5 months. I reached level cap in record time, made great friends, and participated in some insanely fun raids and instance runs. But the "holy trinity" concept really irritated me. Class balance was/is a joke in both PvE and PvP. To summarize, I quickly saw the best and the worst that a now "traditional" MMORPG has to offer.

I started snooping for an alternative and was amazed at how much MMORPGs have (IMO) deteriorated in the past decade. (I run the risk of generalizing too much, but 90% of all MMORPGSs look, feel, sound, taste, and smell exactly the same.) I still checked in on my old RoM guildies, and I started noticing a lot of players talking about some "GW2" game. With the help of a close friend (Google), I started reading about GW2 and watching videos. I like what I've seen.

Finally here is a game that will let me play how I want to play. A game that will not force me into a class or role I don't want, nor encourage FotM class swaps. A game that will give me the freedom to fill any role I want, using any tactics I want. A game that actually gives me something different, and is not just a clone of the clone that cloned a clone. I look at GW2, and I see the future of MMO gaming. I look into the future, and I see myself playing GW2...

For a very, very long time.

    Peace.

Hi there BJ! I'm right there with you on the whole MMO's feel the same bit. It's not hard to make something different and yet they never do. GW2 is going to be different. Well, welcome to the forums!

Thanks all for the welcome. And where the heck is this Centaur guy? I've been waiting for him to show up since the first reply!

Damn, I missed one. Shame on me! Must be old age finally catching up with me! Anyway, sorry about the delay, BJHawk, and (belated) welcome to these forums!

[Edit] on a sidenote, I did start Runes of Magic sometime ago, but never really did feel at home in that whole world, and never got past level 12 on my character. Way too much grinding necessary to get anywhere at all.

Hehe, I kid. We all get old eventually--usually in our early twenties, I've noticed. Thanks for the welcome.

If early game was too much grind, it may not be the game for you. The real grind comes near endgame when you grind for gear and stats. Supposedly you pull a random stat from 4-6 possibilities, but in actual experience there is a 99% chance that you will get crap. I had very bad luck, and that plus a few instances of ppp by the devs pretty much killed it for me. It's a very cool game though, with lots of depth and incredible customization options, and I do not regret a moment of my time.
