Thread: Whats your deaths per hour?

    Whats your deaths per hour?

Just wanna compare how often the different character classes die and if I am exceptionally rubbish at GW2...lol

To work out type /deaths and /age in chat. Then divide deaths by age, vola...deaths per hour (dph).

    Mine are:

    Ranger deaths = 333 time = 241 so dph = 1.38

    Engineer d=30 t=38 dph=0.79

    Elementalist d=60 t=35 dph=1.71

    Necromancer d=37 t=34 dph=1.09

    Warrior d=37 t=23 dph=1.61

    Human GUARDIAN - lvl 80 = 106 deaths / 138.5 hours = 0.765 dph
    Human THIEF - lvl 13 = 11 deaths / 11.1 hours = 0.99 dph

I have a lot more game time, but its all from characters that no longer exist (most of which didn't even reach lvl 5), so I can't give you the dph for it (I have alternate character ADD, lol).

Of course, this is also much of a player thing, not necessarily a class thing... some people are quite cautious and concerned about staying alive, while others will freely jump to their deaths for shiggles (like this guy in Arah the other day who got a kick out of jumping from the airship after I got knocked off it during battle and mentioned how it had to load a new area before you could land and die, which was, admittedly, quite hilarious).

.....Never let modern day travesties harm the memory of greatness.

I'm one of those "throw caution to the wind" people who really doesn't care if he dies and will often jump off of tall things for giggles. I would estimate that a third of my deaths on the Mesmer and Ranger are because I got myself killed for fun.

Ranger 218 deaths, 166 hours played. 1.313 DPH
Warrior 185 deaths, 154 hours played. 1.20 DPH
Mesmer 333 deaths, 371 hours played. .897 DPH
Necromancer 142 deaths, 175 hours played .806 DPH

It's kindof funny, you can see my deaths go down in the order that I leveled the characters. My Ranger was first, then Warrior, them Mesmer, then Necromancer.

I 'try' to avoid death but not like I would playing a hardcore (only 1 life) character.

I have often jumped off cliffs, mountains and platforms without looking down first and thats often resulted in death...sometimes I run off a high place trying to avoid death (in WvW for example).

I don't think my rate of death is really going down the longer I play the game, it should, as you should get better but I am thinking its a pretty level for me personally.

Hopefully, more people will respond, every time I get 10 people giving there dph, I will make a list of character classes with the overall character average. Interested in seeing if it confirms or denys some of the posts on this and the official forum about how powerful each character class is. I have my own personal theorys but will post those later possibly...

I'm not sure of the overall value of this information. Some people spend a huge amount of time in Orr or in zones of a higher level than them. What you really need is a poll of the number of deaths in a specific zone, or a specific area, and what level character is being played.

For example, I do a lot of dungeons (much to my dismay) and so I end up with a higher death average than I did when I wasn't doing them. I also die a lot more on my engineer, as I have very few points in vitality. If I added points to his vitality he'd certainly survive a percentage of the times that he's died. My ranger and my memser are both far more survivable than my engineer, but it's how he's specced, not the profession.

I think you need far more detail to get a real idea of what how well you're doing compared to others.

I can't log in right now, but I think it really strongly depends on what you're doing. I can count the times I died in regular outdoor PVE on two hands and half of that was probably that one time I did try the Grenth event in Orr in vain.

But on my two only visits to Dungeons in this game I died probably as often as in the whole outdoor PVE scenario, because they seem to be pretty unforgiving if you don't know the fights.

And then I really do WvW pretty much exclusively. And there, how often you die pretty much depends on what you're doing: Are you running in a small "task force" to annoy the opponents and cap supply camp/kill dolyaks? Then you'll get killed quite frequently, because you are easily outnumbered.

However, when I'm running with the guild I recently joined, which probably has the most competent WvW raidleader of our server's WvW community, I often don't die for hours, because on one hand, as a DD Ele I'm normally the last man standing if our raid gets crushed and can often escape death through superior mobility, and on the other hand that doesn't happen very often, because the leader knows pretty well what he's doing and how to tackle superior numbers.

Well since I am not on my home pc (I have to work today ) but I know my thief and mesmer both (lvl 80) have around 330 deaths, and both have 300-500 hours of playtime (total guess here but they are my mains and I play them most of all) On my Guardian, 50-60 deaths and is lvl 56, he probably has around 100 hours, my other toons are around or under lvl 20 and no idea on their deaths.

I racked up a lot of deaths on my mesmer once on a difficult story (not to mention some first runs in Dungeons lol) but most of the time I die from falling. Like in one of the areas there is a bridge that goes across water to a dungeon ramp (totally can't remember which right now, Think flame legion dungeon which ever one that is) but I got the waypoint at the dungeon and I then needed to finish exploring south and well I went to the middle of the bridge and jumped into the water. Only problem was the water was 6 inches deep and the bridge really high lol. Its really funny too when after playing my mesmer (who has the falling damage 1/2 perk) and switching to another toon that doesn't I forget that

    Yep, its largely for fun!

I will need a lot of data through to factor out individual player skill, people concentrating more on one part of the game vs another etc...

So post your deaths per hour here!
