Thread: Whats your deaths per hour?

  1. #21
    My Mesmer:

    .8 DPH
12:1 K:D (WvW "achieved" kills to deaths, probably not a good representation but I don't die very often).

Probably a combination of player skill, playstyle, and profession. I play a pretty tanky Mesmer that uses a lot of subtlety, positioning, invulnerability, and spell reflection and I'm pretty damn good at it.

I'm sorry but that made me giggle a little... I know it makes sense in this game, but that's still such a weird thing to say, lol. Something inside me just wants to scream...

    "Tanks aren't subtle, dammit!"

Part of my infinite tank is being able to hide in clones.

Evasion tanking? That's unacceptable unless you're double tanking!

Seriously, though, back when I was a DCUO nut, and before I decided to run as a healer, my friend and I would double tank with his Ice tank and my Fire dps... what I mean by this is, because so few healers could keep up with his pulls in a mob (he was a damn good tank, let me tell ya), every now and again, he'd have to pull away to heal because his colas weren't recharged (colas are like healing potions). In order to allow him to do this, I would run up to him and hit an AOE pull ability I had, followed by an AOE blow back... this basically pulled everything off of him and then pushed it off of me so I wouldn't die, lol... I'd then hit an AOE mass burn and run off leading the mob away from him until he could pop a cola and jump back in to tank some more. It worked like a charm, and had become almost second nature to us, but by the time we were doing raids, he couldn't always stay alive without decent healers, so I finally decided to make a healer and boost him quick to get to raid level, and we became a pretty bad ass healer/tank team, since I was exceptionally good at healing as long as the controllers would keep up their energy springs (I would consistently measure double the healing out numbers of fellow healers ni raids, so I'm not just tooting my own horn here, lol)... needless to say, he rarely died once I became a healer... heck, outside of raid bosses, almost no one would die when I was there healing (lightning heals were insanely good is chained properly).

ANYWAY!!! That's all completely beside the point!

One of the most interesting things about GW2 is that traditional roles, such as tanking and healing, are pretty much nixed with how the game works... sure you can still do it (hell, both healing and tanking can be done to great effect with a Guardian, as I've learned whilst becoming much of a "healing tank" myself, which is another one of those things that screams insanity, lol), but that's not how this game needs to be played, and that's a great thing, imo.

    Oh no you didn't!

    Bitches don't know about Ninjas!

Originally, Ninja was not meant to be a tanking job. However, the player base discovered a method that enables Ninjas to avoid most attacks directed at them by monsters. In time, ninja became one of the two tank classes in the game. Ninja are able to tank despite having low Vitality and Defense because they have good evasion, agility, and a few spells that allow them to create copy images.

    Yep... nailed it.

YOU SAY THAT, except I can teleport several times and vanish from sight. Also I can face tank entire groups of mobs in explorable dungeons and fractals via blinding everything. AKA avoiding damage instead of taking damage since I'm squishy.

    Evasion. Tank!

About 12k WvW kills, 2k deaths. I honestly thought I would have had more like 4-5k deaths.
