    Guild Wars 2 - Installation

So I recently purchased guild wars 2 from gamestop, and it wont be shipped to me until Thursday in two days. I had been reading other threads about how people were having to download some patches and updates over the internet after installing from the discs, and everyone was saying they only had to download about 2-3gb extra. I wanted to make sure that was all that I had to download, so I contacted Guild Wars 2 support and James told me to **** off.......No not really, he just told me that Guild Wars 2 was going to **** me with their large updates I would have to download.....Wait that wasn't it...James told me that I would have to download 10-15gb worth of updates...what?!.....so now I have to purchase a higher data limit from Verizon (I use a mifi) I would use FIOS but they don't offer it in my area......Can someone please let me know if this is true....Or if James is just a troll

The game is rather large, and as it's an MMO is being updated constantly, it may not be that large but you'll have a pretty big patch after you install the disks. Unless you're on an LTE mifi in a location with pretty decent performance you'll probably have a miserable time playing this over a cellular network.

The higher number is more accurate. The longer an MMO is out, the more you'll have to download, because the greater the number of updates will exist from the time the game is released. Guild Wars 2 was released at the end of August and has had several major updates between release and now. Had you bought it right away, you'd have had far less updates. If you'd bought it a month from now, there'd be more. Because they don't repress DvD as the game gets older. In fact, in some places, you don't even get a disc. What you're really paying for is the access to the world not the game itself, which is technically free. Anyone can download it...but to enter it you need the license.

Yeah, you guys are probably right. I went ahead and purchased the 20gb limit from Verizon. And Im going to go ahead and pay the 15 bucks for every extra gig I use. And I do use LTE. It is pretty fast, and I can play black ops 2 multiplayer with it. And I saw from one website that Guild Wars 2 only uses about 18 megabytes per hour. I think that is less than Black ops 2. Do you think I'm fine if I am able to play Black ops 2 online.

I am also seeing people on other forums saying they use about 20-30 mgb per hour on Guild Wars 2.....So I guess I should be able to play pretty well with my connection......But another thing is, If I chose to play on max settings....What would be the determining factor on how well that would run...Internet connection or PC performance....I have a 3rd Gen i7 processor, 2gb AMD 7650m graphics card, and 8g of ram....If settings only relied on my laptop's performance that would be great...But if it was based on Internet connection I think it would be a different story...

Yes, interestingly Guild Wars 2 uses very little bandwidth once it's actually running. The bandwidth intensive part is during the downloading or updating of the game files.

This is actually something that gets a lot of people confused. There are two parts to performance, FPS (Frames Per Second) and ping (your internet connection).

Your ping dictates how well your computer communicated with ArenaNet's servers. If you have bad ping then your game will have hiccups in activating skills, walking around, and other weird stuff. Basically there's a delay in what you do on your end, whatever that may be.

When your FPS is bad it is very noticeable. Usually you get what is called the 'slideshow effect', where there's too much going on and your game seems to run slower and not as smoothly. This has nothing to do with ping and has everything to do with how good your computer hardware is.

Based on the specs you gave us, you should do just fine at running this game, at least the FPS part.

Awesome.....I just hope that the LTE will have a good "ping"...But from what I am hearing it sounds like it should since GW2 does not use much bandwidth...thanks
