    Noob probs

So I have some questions. I have been playing for the past couple of days, and I think I need some help. I am a level 11 Norn warrior. Lately I have been trying to do the main questline, but the suggested level to do the next mission is level 17. I just wanted to know what was your strategy for in the beginning. Did you just go around crafting to level up and then you did the next main quest, or did you go off fighting to level up? I also have another question. When you level up, do all of your fighting skills level up at the same time? As in your vitality, strength, and defense? Lets say I leveled up from armorsmithing and I hit level 12 (In my character, not smithing) Does that mean my fighting skills would increase too, even though I wasn't fighting to level up?
Thanks for all your help guys.

I wouldn't think of the personal story as the main quest line. It's not the "main" thing to do, it's one thing to do among many other things to do. The main meat of the game is really hearts and dynamic events. You can craft and explore as well to level up. But the game isn't about leveling.

The personal story was never supposed to be the main thing to do. It was something that added to the game, but the game really doesn't center around it. I find it's best to level 10 levels and then do ten levels of personal story since the personal story actually occurs in chapters that are 10 level increments. The only downside to this is that the quest rewards you get from the story become, for the most part, meaningless.

And yes, no matter how you level up, you're leveling up your character. Crafting will level your main character up, if that's how you want to do it (and some people do). But I like the dynamic events personally and hearts not only give you cash and karma, but also the heart NPCs turn into karma vendors which allow you to buy things like equipment upgrades, consumables and other stuff.

Don't forget that at level 11, you have to buy a book for 10 silver to unlock your traits. Crafting might level you fast, but it will cost you money, not make you money. Gathering however, is pure profit. You can gather and either save or sell what you gather and still get XP for it.
