    Noob probs

So I have some questions. I have been playing for the past couple of days, and I think I need some help. I am a level 11 Norn warrior. Lately I have been trying to do the main questline, but the suggested level to do the next mission is level 17. I just wanted to know what was your strategy for in the beginning. Did you just go around crafting to level up and then you did the next main quest, or did you go off fighting to level up? I also have another question. When you level up, do all of your fighting skills level up at the same time? As in your vitality, strength, and defense? Lets say I leveled up from armorsmithing and I hit level 12 (In my character, not smithing) Does that mean my fighting skills would increase too, even though I wasn't fighting to level up?
Thanks for all your help guys.

I wouldn't think of the personal story as the main quest line. It's not the "main" thing to do, it's one thing to do among many other things to do. The main meat of the game is really hearts and dynamic events. You can craft and explore as well to level up. But the game isn't about leveling.

The personal story was never supposed to be the main thing to do. It was something that added to the game, but the game really doesn't center around it. I find it's best to level 10 levels and then do ten levels of personal story since the personal story actually occurs in chapters that are 10 level increments. The only downside to this is that the quest rewards you get from the story become, for the most part, meaningless.

And yes, no matter how you level up, you're leveling up your character. Crafting will level your main character up, if that's how you want to do it (and some people do). But I like the dynamic events personally and hearts not only give you cash and karma, but also the heart NPCs turn into karma vendors which allow you to buy things like equipment upgrades, consumables and other stuff.

Don't forget that at level 11, you have to buy a book for 10 silver to unlock your traits. Crafting might level you fast, but it will cost you money, not make you money. Gathering however, is pure profit. You can gather and either save or sell what you gather and still get XP for it.

Yeah I feel like that is what I have been trying to do. Just going around and doing the hearts and dynamic events. I also have been trying to get all the vistas and just explore an entire area. Money is starting to become a problem. I went to go by the book to learn adept traits, but it costs 10 silver. And I only have 5 silver and about 60 bronze. I am just going to have to keep exploring and gathering and selling at trading posts. I have been experimenting with armor smithing and I have found about 4 copper ore veins. That produces 12 copper ores. I started to make some bronze armor, but after making one bronze chest plate I decided it was too expensive too make my own armor right now. I am also trying to figure out how to merchant items. (Buy Low then sell High). But the stupid trading post makes you pay a listing fee. As if there are NPC's making profit off of a trading post. How stupid. But I am just going to keep grinding till I have enough money to buy that adept book.

Do different starting zones, I usually do 2 before going on to a 15-25 zone.

Wayfarer Hills is one of the best starting zones in my opinion, its got two excellent chains of DE's which will boost xp, karma and money quickly. The 2 chains are the champion shamen and further north the assault on the Son of Svanir fortifications. The shamen one also gives a chest at the end which will give you blues/greens which at the very least means more money.

The Asura starting zone has excellent DE chains as well.

Go via the Heart of Mists to LA then to any starting zone.

5 Hours ago you were level 11 I am assuming, hopefully you've level more since then! Haha.

Well as far as getting money, I found this very helpful!

    http://www.almarsguides.com/gw2/Farming/

Almost everything you get can be pure profit on the Auction House (Black Lion Trading Company) except for blue and green armor. People tend to want white armor just so they can salvage it, and are willing to pay a pretty copper at your level. Copper ore sells pretty well too.

EDIT: I noticed you said selling at trading posts. I don't know if you know this, but you can sell your stuff from WHEREVER you are. You only need to go to a Trading Post to pick up the money you made from selling it, or the items you bought.

iv never had problems liek this , what i do is ... just do some dynamic events do some hearths do a story mission , then go do some dynamic events again , etc etc.

teres ones or twice at alts iv had to go level up for a story quest, but yeh if your solely driving after the main story quest it will outlevel you and you gonan have a problem on your hands altho you can do it still several levels higher then you if skilled ...

my advice is , explore the world and find the dynamic events watch the mapchat for events popping up and people anouncing them , dotn be afraid to go back to places you visited before couse yo might see things that werent tere before , this is what it is to play in a living breathing world so to speak ..

also crafting is a good way to get xp yes , it gets eisier on alternate characters cosue all the stuff you collected and didnt particly use for your current crafting the other one wil lsurely so yeh , leveling is even eisier on alts

altho i havent played gw2 in a wile , kinda got burned out a month or 2 ago wile leveling a warrior , thief , elementalist to lvl 80 and some lowwer level alts ...

but still even if i'm a little bored with the game now .. or done with it .. i still think this is the best mmorpg out tere , and if i play a next gen i will hold gw2 standards to them for sure ... if it wont live up to it i wont buy it

also , Hi to everyone on forum , long time no see ;p !

yes as someone alluded to prior, crafting is definately the way to go, if you have the money to get leveled up very fast, but...and it's a BIG but, the down side is, is that you have absolutely no concept of the game or it's features - sure you are a level 80 but you are an ignorant level 80 compared to someone who has gained level 80 thru the interaction w/ the games features...you have no geographical knowledge, no knowledge of the vast locations and territories or their different events and points of interest which can be so beneficial for you...don't be in a hurry to level just to be a 'big boy'...take it from one who's done it both ways to 80, craftig the first time, which was the wrong way and then via the way of the world so to speak where you gain knowledge and such from the regular play and leveling which brings you much knowledge and enjoyment, and yes, some frustration too...but it's much more rewarding.

There were stories that people had got to Level 80 purely by crafting within a few days of GW2's release, however, I understand that this mode of levelling is one of the (many) things that have been modified since then. As I understand it, the maximum levels that can be gained through crafting is 10 levels.

Some people advise that it's best to save using levels gamed through crafting until you are level 60 and above, however, I'm not sure I agree, since XP required for levelling is easy to get at higher levels, and a lot of people struggle to level as quickly as they'd like around Levels 25-40. I guess it is an individual choice when to use crafting to level, but I would be concentrating on leveling through exploring and so on as much as possible.
