Windows 8 and Guild Wars 2

I wanted to post this because I know a lot of PC gamers worry about windows 8. I have had no problems with windows 8 and guild wars 2, and everything has ran smoothly so far. I can go strait to my desktop, and the icon is right there just like Windows 7. Personally, I like windows 8 more than any other windows OS I have used. I don't use the metro (Start Screen) that often, but I actually enjoy the layout. I was worried about getting windows 8 because I heard a lot of Game producers complaining about it, and I know the creator of Steam was upset with it too. But I know a lot of people don't want to use windows 8 because they worry about the start screen. (The screen with all the live tiles on it). But it really isn't that hard to switch to desktop mode. In fact, the desktop is all I really use. I still only use the desktop for internet explorer, because I don't like the metro Internet explorer. The desktop internet explorer is basically the same traditional look (where you have the address bar at the top).

But back to the main reason I made this post, Guild wars 2 runs great on Windows 8, I'm sure it even runs better than it does on Windows 7. So if you are out there looking for a new PC, don't worry about guild wars 2 not being able to run on it. It has worked out perfectly for me so far.

I had to install Win8 and Office 2013 on a server at work. I lost 2 sanity points during that process. I won't be putting it on my personal or work pc.

The world is full of pain and sorrow.
Life is fleeting and true moments of joy are few and far between.
Happiness is laced with shards of pain.

I concur. Coodoos to you if you like windows 8, but to me it looks like something a 2 year barfed up. I'll stick with 7 and if MS trys to push something on me I still have XP discs somewhere

I initially had some problems when I went against my better judgement and did an upgrade instead of a fresh install. Once I remembered how dumb that is I did a fresh install and all has been well since.

Well, if you ever buy a new PC you will get to try it. I have to highly disagree though. I don't think I would ever want to switch back to Windows XP. That sounds terrible. I had to live with Windows XP for the past 5 years on my old dell, and thankfully I got rid of both those products. And I also thought Windows 8 was ugly when I saw it on other computers. But after going through the customization options, it looks pretty damn sexy. So if you want to stick with Windows XP, "kudos" to you. You'll be like my grandfather that hates changing to anything new.

But honestly, I think I would rather use Windows 8 for the first time when I bought a new computer. I don't think I would ever want to install a new OS on my PC. That would be so frustrating.

The problem with windows 8 has never really been performance issues. Stronger software will always result in better performance. The issue is the controversy surrounding the Windows Store and how it'll affect gamers if we give Microsoft more control over what titles we install.

Particularly Microsoft trying to compete with Valve, just like EA is with Origin.

Microsoft knows if they prevented gaming companies from installing their games on their software, they would suffer a huge loss. Nobody wants PC hardware with Apple type restrictions. If this did happen. I would have to switch to a MacBook.
