    Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes

My dear Chrono fans...I know there are a good number of you who still hope and pray for an offcial sequel or remake to be released. Unfortunately, Square will always be a bunch of doodoo heads (yes I said it!). So here's something you may or may not have heard of that will get your blood pumping...

    Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes

Yes, it is a fan-made ROM hack...but it was done so brilliantly, you would have no clue that fans made it.

The story takes place 5 years later, 1005 A.D....Crono, Marle, and King Guardia have a meeting with Porre military as tensions between Guardia and Porre start to rise. Crono, Marle and Lucca overhear an assassination plan on the King from one of the Porre military. Our heroes chase him down to the Denadoro Mts. where this assassin mysteriously disappears...at this moment, Lucca's experimental Time Egg that she has been working on suddenly malfunctions sending our heroes to a mysterious facility in the future. Our heroes run into Belthasar of the new future in the year 2305 A.D., who happens to be running Chronopolis. You learn of a new disturbance in the timeline involving the Frozen Flame as well as a new shocking, unexpected villain. Our heroes must once again, travel through time to find out this new disturbance and bring peace once again to the timeline...

I will go out and say that this game is just as good as Chrono Trigger. I know that is a lot to say. But it really is. I don't wanna spoil who the villain is to you guys, but I will say that this character has never been in CT or CC and you WILL be shocked and surprised! This game takes you to the new, brighter future of 2305 A.D. and is a fun one to explore. You get to re-visit all of the era's that we all grew to love in CT. They even managed to add a brand new era never before seen in a Chrono game - the year 1 A.D.! Also, let's just say you might even get to re-visit the Kingdom of Zeal again... These guys managed to create brand new items, and brand new techs too! The managed to create several side quests that answer side story questions that bridge over into Chrono Cross. For example, what happened to the Kingdom of Guardia in Chrono Cross? I will say that the final dungeon is pretty epic as well! And of course, there are multiple endings. It looks like classic Chrono Trigger and plays like classic Chrono Trigger. But feels like a direct sequel due to this amazing story that these guys created.

These guys were unfortunately delivered a Cease & Desist order from Square, however, they were 98% complete with the game. I believe two years ago however, this ROM was leaked from somewhere! I managed to find it a year ago and have this game running on SNESOID on my Xperia Play phone. If you are a Chrono fan, I will tell you that it is worth the search for this ROM. Heck, if this ROM was for sale, I was hand out $50 no problem for this game. I am that serious. All fanboyism aside. I am THAT serious.

If you unfortunately can't find the ROM, the creators posted a complete 'Let's Play' series on youtube along with some really interesting commentary. Youtube the name CEMemorial for the complete playthrough with all sidequests, endings, etc. Here is the first video to hopefully peek your interest. I PROMISE PROMISE PROMISE you, that if you are a Chrono fan, this is what you have been waiting for...

Sounds kinda like what they did with the Final Fantasy IV sequel... except, y'know... THAT was officially made, not that I've ever played it since it was only released for the Wii and the PSP as far as I know, neither of which do I own... I keep hoping they'll release it on the PS3 at some point, but then I'm still waiting for the PSOne Classic release of the standard FFIV.

I mean, it doesn't make sense, it was released with Chrono Trigger in the FF Chronicles set, and Chrono Trigger is available, so why not FFIV?! Its the only PSX FF title that isn't available... 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are there but no 4... and I just don't understand why! I mean, its not like I'm asking for FFIII or anything (though they did just recently adapt the NDS remake for the PSP, so there's no excuse for it to not be available of the PS3 as well, imo, but yeah).

Sorry... got caught up in a little bit of a fanboy rant for a second there.
Oh hey! A sequel to Chrono Trigger that doesn't seem crappy! Shiny!

.....Never let modern day travesties harm the memory of greatness.

haha, its ok! That is surprising though considering FF4 is out for pretty much everything BUT the PS3...lol Square Enix is just a weird one...

At anyrate, I know this is a 98% fan made made game (or ROM hack or whatever you wanna call it) and all...but it feels so much like an official sequel that you will quickly forget that it is fan made...I know i'm probably going into fan boy mode again.. But they made a story that blends in so well between CT and CC that Square Enix is probably scared to do anything with the Chrono series because these fans probably made a better game than they could at this point..lol
