    Cash Shop Sale

Apparently there's a sale in the cash shop. Three items a day every day for 3 days. I don't know if I missed a day or not, but today's items are:

Character slot (25% off) 600 gems
    Minipet 3 pack (30% off) 210 gems
Total Makeover kit 5 Pack (the normal 1 is not on sale) (25% off) 1050 gems.

I'll try to post the updates as soon as they change. Hope I didn't miss day one.

Yeah you missed day one, which was:

Black Lion Salvage Kit = 210 gems (30% off)
    Booster Multipack = 180 gems (40% off)
Pirate Captain Outfit = 350 gems (50% off)

The salvage kits were nice but the others were meh.

    Guess what I did?

Yep, I bought 3 new character slots for christmas, so I could create a Mesmer, Guardian and Thief...doh!

If only I had waited a few days...would have saved 600 gems...

To be honest I'm kind of disappointed with these sales. I think prices for these items are too high anyway, and should probably be half of what they are normally even before the sale. Plus there's very little selection for style or things that I would consider 'high value'. For instance, I would easily be willing to pay 500 or so gems for an everlasting makeover kit, but not twice that for one that only has only a single use.

I don't know Izzy, compared to most MMOs these prices aren't particularly high, the exception of course being MMOs that charge a monthly fee. I really think any MMO that charged something like $5 for an everlasting makeover kit would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Actually, since WoW and a few other specific titles are the only ones that can survive off the sub model now its kind of hard to say.

Honestly, if the entire game is $60, and you get 5 characters. Does that mean each character is $10 and access to the world is an additional $10? Or does that mean every character is $12, and there is no charge to enter the world? Or that each character is $6 and the rest of the game is $30? It's difficult to say. Either way, the really successful F2P models show that people buy more for less.

Additionally, WoW with it's monthly fee gives you 10 character slots and the freedom to make 10 on any server. P̶o̶t̶e̶n̶t̶i̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶h̶u̶n̶d̶r̶e̶d̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶r̶a̶c̶t̶e̶r̶s. Apparently the max is 50. My mistake. Still though, that's A LOT.

Unrelated: I'd be willing to literally throw my money at GW2 if they'd actually make some more armor/weapon skins. I've been prepared to do so since like 2 years ago. I personally don't like any of the style options available. But I've spent like over $200 on league skins over the years and no F2P model makes more money than LoL sooo.... Yeaaahh.

They should get on that. Because I want to give them my money for it. But they're not offering it to me... :\

I'm sure skins will come. It's not first priority, but it'll come. It's like Lotro. They didn't have a ton of skins at first, but they released them over time. In my opinion that drives the greatest number of sales.

If you had a ton of skins straight out, people would buy a few...most people and be done. If you slowly come out with skins, every time you introduce a new one you get a chunk of sales, because people like to buy what's new (don't ask me why).

That's what they did in Guild Wars 1 as well. They introduced skins very slowly...costumes at any rate...and they apparently did well with it. Why change a working model?

I'm fine with this. I just thought we'd see some new ones already instead of only seasonal clothes and what not.

Personally, there is nothing I will buy from the store except possibly a char slot and the name change kit when it comes out. I have already fixed my hair and I would only buy another make-over kit if it had multiple uses. Ditto for a make-up kit, if they ever introduce one. All of the store clothes suck and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

I also think the prices are a tad high, but I am less affected by that than others, probably.

I'm not a marketing expert but I would say that if the cost is too high, they risk very few purchases, but when the cost is low they may actually bring in more money since more people would be willing to buy it.

Since most items in the gem shop are what I would call 'complimentary' to the game, I think the prices are way too high. I mean I realize these are collectors things, and in no way necessary, but a lot of people are interested in them.

Plus on the point of the everlasting makeover kit, I never understood why they were rare in games. A name change I can see being expensive since it would have consequences, but a characters hair style? You would be able to change that at any time for nearly free if I had my way, lol.
