Will I ever get to a point where I can one-hit kill minor creatures?

There isn't so much of a feeling of powering up in this game. . . Is there a build that gets to that point? As a level 41, having to deal with minor creatures harassing me while I'm exploring in PvE gets tiring, especially since the re-spawning is stupidly quick in some cases.

What is really annoying is that if a creature chases me and I run until it stops chasing, then turn around to take it out, many times the thing is invulnerable and regenerates health while it retreats to its original position, where it becomes vulnerable to attacks. It seems that once the creature has moved out of its territory it becomes unkillable.

I feel like a tool with this game at times. (yes , I constantly upgrade my weapons, with dubious benefits)

Seems all the stats and mechanics are tweaked in favour of PvP balance and it cheapens PvE gameplay.

No, not as far as I know. With down leveling, you never get to the point where you 1 shot enemies. Low level areas do become considerably easier as your gear improves but you after still pay attention to the game.

The best way of avoiding annoying aggro is stealth. Mesmers and Thieves have stealth. Its one of the abilities that make those 2 character classes so fantastic, the ability to move around the world without fighting every bandit, spider, moa etc...

I think I have 1 hit stuff in the starter zones before, like a lvl 2 drake or something. But that was as an 80 in all exotics and maybe on a crit. (I can't remember 100% though) But the game should be challenging and you should have to think about what to fight, when and how as you go through it...but if you're struggling with mobs BELOW your level THEN I would see if you need to make changes. If they are lvl appropriate mobs, that's just regular gameplay.

For me, having the down-leveling and not being able to one shot everything keeps the challenge going and you gain exp at the same time (at least until 80). The MMO I came from "greyed out" at eleven levels below the one I was currently on, effectively making the zone pointless to roam around in.

I have definitely one-shot a lot of things though. Like rabbits.

Thanks for replies, I may have to try a thief and a mesmer.

One of my favourite things with the ranger is running past creatures and leaving traps in my path as I run, not even looking back as I hear the traps go off on some stupid thing chasing me and see the XP numbers flashing. I have probably one-hit killed things with a spike trap.

I like exploration more than fighting minor creatures and grinding for rewards, really . When I'm done seeing most of the different areas of the game and completed most quests, I'll probably move on. There are too many annoyances here, this game is more PvP/WvW with the PvE sort of tacked on.

you should have to think about what to fight, when and how as you go through it
There is no challenge in dispatching these mindless things unless you manage to get surrounded. The just come straight for you and you just have to dodge once or twice as you wipe them out.

The problem is having to constantly run if you are trying to get somewhere, as fighting the same stuff over and over gets old. Especially when a lot of this stuff re-spawns behind your back if you don't get out of there. There is rarely a feeling of having cleared an area even for 5 minutes.

This means I end up teleporting a lot between places when I'd rather walk. Raid a Hylek village,f or example, then TP out of there or have to kill everything all over again to get out. I've seen others do it, you'll think you're ok cause you're fighting with others, suddenly everyone's disappeared because the job is done and you have to fight your way out solo if you dont want to teleport.

Well you have a pet that may aggro things and until recently weren't very fast (you can have a passive 25% speed buff now) but still a ranger not a great roaming class if you don't want to fight stuff. (its good for PVE mob fighting though)

On my DD elementalist I can run through lvl 80 Orr where every mob has pulls and CC and get to anywhere I want without figting anything. Probably the best roaming class out there. So each class has its pro's and cons.
