Thread: Gw2 is going to die?

  1. #21
I don't think GW2 will die anytime soon...The populations are still high! Me personally...I am taking a break for a bit and playing Borderlands 2 with my gf. I am taking this break for several reasons outside of the content of the game. First and foremost, as some of you know, my guild crumbled apart. We did find a new guild on Tarnished Coast that one of my RL friends knew personally (btw Vayne, thx for the offer to join you guys...sorry I never really got to give you guys the proper chance.. my friends immediately went down a different route..). But my guild crumbled, I suddenly lost motivation to play...even after joining a new guild and a new server. On top of that, I had engine troubles with my car that distracted me for a good two weeks (the bad distractions) and I found out that I got into graduate school for physical therapy last week (the good distractions). So I personally have had all sorts of distractions lately...and I've only been able to get on once a week for a few hours if im lucky.. Either way, I decided to get lost in Borderlands 2 for a bit and when I am done, I am gonna get myself back into this game for sure. I feel that this game is easy to come back to after taking breaks too. I tried SWTOR the other day and oof....I invested so much time into that game and coming back, I felt lost and confused by everything...in a bad way too...

Ahem...anyways, the point i am trying to make here is that its my personal life that is keeping me from the game...not the content...I feel that there is a TON to do in this game. At lvl80, you just gotta have the motivation to do the content yourself instead of having an npc hold your hand and lead the way for you!

If the expansions coming in the future are as expensive as the game, bye bye birdie

Don't want to jump to conclusions about you OP but I'm guessing you haven't followed many MMO's developments? Since like 2006 every new MMO has been hyped as the best thing since sliced bread; the fabled WOW killer. Without exception they have been a disappointment and been dead in the water within 6 months. While it has its problems, GW2 has actually been one of the best and most likely will continue for many years to come, if only because it is a sub-free game.

So maybe this is the first MMO you've followed and you're excited by the possibilities? If so, good luck to you and I hope you're happy with it. The best part of a decade and over a dozen releases has taught me to be rather more cynical and I won't be getting my hopes up until I get to play it myself.

Saying that, it has potential. I believe Zenimax Online was founded by the lead dev of DaoC (which IMO had the best PvP system yet implemented in an MMO). But then Warhammer Online was created by Mythic, the actual studio behind DaoC, and it was one of the biggest flops yet. I'm unsure so far, from what I have read it's just another tab-targetting, hotbar based "action" game with the Elder Scrolls name slapped on. And I will be very surprised if it has more content on release than GW2, which had probably the most of any MMO ever, on release.

Also read that it may be a subscription based game, if that's the case it is doomed before it even starts. The days of people paying to play games in that way are over.

Despite all the games out there, all the ones that have failed and all the ones that are yet to come GW2 was NEVER marketed as the WoW killer. Other people labled it as such, but Anet refused to say that, it is and always will be a different game.

Maybe if people stopped comparing everything to WoW they would realize that other things are fun all in their own right.

Honestly though, I think Arena Net has their heads stuck up their asses. What they are doing about bots and illegal gold selling is so stupid. Instead of banning all sellers and buyers, they just go nerfing everything. The market is all screwed up, but apparently they don't even care about it, they just want people to spend money on baby quoggan backpacks and fucking broom sticks. They don't give a shit about how hard it is for us to make gold in the game, as long as they are able to make gem sales. I hope EOS has a subscription fee, I'm tired of all this gem bullshit.

Agreed 100%, it is better to pay a monthly fee than this crap we got now.

uhhh they did ban tons of bots and gold sellers and continue to do so. They didn't nerf everything only a few zones and they increased the drop rate on certain other mobs. Even in alot of P2P games there are cash shops so you can get other things.

Guild Wars lasted as a F2P just fine, there are quite a few other f2p mmo's out there some successful some not. GW2 is not a even a year old yet, but its doing just fine with over 1 million additional copies sold I would say its certainly not dieing.

As for EOS have a subfee, well I hope not, because that means it won't succeed as well. EOS will not be the WoW killer everyone seems to want just like GW2 wasn't. WoW is its own killer. People keep going back to it because they have so much invested in it they just can't leave. Sure that doesn't apply to every player of WoW, but a fair number it does.

I don't think it'll be dying anytime soon either, maybe reducing numbers over time but this will force the population into less servers making the population more concerntrated and thus be more fun.
It just needs time to even out and get rid of all the people who are just testing the water in the game.
There's tons of new content coming and I'm really excited for some of the updates they have coming.
At the end of the day Skyrim and GW2 are pretty different, yes they'll both be MMOs but Skryim appeals to the more serious types, GW2 is more fanasty and pretty and as long as that difference remains the whole population, or even enough so that GW2 has to end aren't going to run to ESO.

Not trying to start an argument. But I just wanted to point this out because it bothered me.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been in development for 5 years prior to its announcement in May 2012.It is the first project for ZeniMax Online Studios, which was formed in 2007. Matt Firor, studio lead at Zenimax Online, is also the director of The Elder Scrolls Online
It goes without saying, they kept this game a huge secret from everyone during that entire time.

Except that MMOs that charge monthly fees, and I've played a bunch of them, totally suck from my point of view. If Guidl Wars 2 charged a monthly fee, to me, it would be better than games that currently charge a monthly fee. You see, it offers a, get this, different experience than other MMOs. Those who don't like other MMOs (which would be many of us) like what Guild Wars 2 is offering. And those who don't are free to go and play a monthly fee. This game is not shit, Mayito, it's just that YOU don't like it. After watching your comments for months, I can safely say that any game you like I'd probably hate, so that's a good thing for me. The more you don't like it, the better it likely is. Maybve if you didn't post about Anet discriminating against the aged, because they have jumping puzzles in the game, or you making up what they've said and saying they said there would never be mounts, your points would be worth a modicum of consideration. But it's a good thing you're on the other side, because you lend credibility to posts that go against what you claim to be true. Keep it up. You're only making the game look better.
