Unless you do dailies which takes, what, half an hour a day? An hour at most? Then you get liquid karma, which allows you to buy the armor essentially for nothing. I decked out one character completely in the armor from the temples in Orr, for end game stuff. Those who WvW regularly they get it with badges of honor. Those who farm events can buy the stuff for gold, but you know.. you do not, repeat do not need exotic armor to do ANYTHING in this game. That's simply how you're used to doing things in other games. That's your error in thinking.

I'm doing dungeons and Orr and WvW on one character in mostly greens, and they cost almost nothing. In fact, you don't need top level gear to do ANYTHING in this game. Nothing. Perpetuating the fiction that you need that stuff is simply bringing other games into this one.

Is there a difference between green armor and orange? Sure there is. Is there anything I can't take on in green armor, as opposed to exotics? Very very very few things. It's just a matter of perception.

Again, I've never ever sold a gem, and most of my characters are in exotics, mostly from karma gear. It's so easy to get karma in this game, it's ridiculous. Those who ignore karma and focus on gold are missing out big time.

Well it all depends on play style and some players rely more on how strong their gear is.

Sorry but it doesn't. The difference gear makes in this game, compared to other games is miniscule. You still have the habit of BELIEVING your gear makes a huge difference. An 80th level green piece to an 80th level exotic piece isn't that big a deal. Yes, you can kill something a bit faster. Yes, you're a bit more survivable, but that's it. A bit more. You don't need it.

But in any event, the game gives you plenty of karma and money to get this stuff as you level, and you just save the jugs of karma from your daily without using them until you're 80 and by the time you're 80, bam, a full set of exotic armor. You get a gold weapon for finishing your personal story as well.

You've simply taken when you've known from other games and assumed that you have to do the same here....and you don't. In fact, a lot of people complain that the open world is too easy...so having a full set of exotics in the open world only makes it easier.

And let's not forget, once you have a halfway decent set of gear, which is easily obtainable, do a few dungeon runs to upgrade any piece you want. Or WvW for upgrades, which is quite profitable as well.

Playstyle has nothing to do with whether or not you can play content. I'm sorry to tell you but needing this stuff is in your mind.

Doing daily achievements for jugs of Karma is a great way to get an exotic set of armor. Too bad the stats are fixed. My Ranger has 2 sets of exotic Karma armor and neither is what she really wants, but it is better than nothing I guess.

It's certainly a temporary solution while you're waiting for what you want.

sub fee vs no sub fee, comes down to 1 thing. what kind of player does the company want to appeal to.

*monthly fee's they only want dedicated players that are always on -means they have to build content to keep them there, new equip goals, big event with crazy limitations needing you to grind to even be worthy of find a team.
this tailors to the "i need this specific equipment to be the best so i'll grind/buy for it"

*non monthly fee's - they're noob freindly; they want people to be able to pick up the game play for a while and either be drawn in by what they see, or put it down and comeback to it later when they've found something out they didn't know, or when they have the free time. this means that they'd have to allow these players to be able to join group easily and still give them the option to get something good from the game for their character.
"this tailors to the "I've got a couple of hours before dinner lets see where I left off" or "might as well work on getting x iron ingots before dinner"

and as for the price of stuff going up:
The gw2 shop is a "shortcut" that tailors to the pay monthly people - I need this to craft something better that your equipment so i'd rather buy it now instead of farming it with my guild buddies.
gem store is all AN's control, how ever many gems the feel something is worth is how much its worth.

The economy in the gold exchange shop is defined by the players, the reason things go up like the value of ectoplasm is because some player went "hmm i'm getting 1 instead of 3, maybe I should sell these more expensive" and someone else going "hmm maybe I could make more money like this guy, so i'll up my price too."
if you go to a local merchant to sell the stuff, thats the value AN assign to the items. greedy players upped the price not AN. if there's a demand, someone will make a profit.

btw, guild boosters (though I believe it's a bug) as well as the 50% karma boosters work on those jugs...so you can save them, get the guild, booster and any other karma bonus and then open them at once and get like 75% more karma that way. Which is a nice way to increase it. (Most of my guildmates do this, though I don't...I have over a million karma just sitting there so its not like I really need more)

Interesting. Yeah hard to say if thats a bug or not since the jug of karma does not say its supposed to give a set amount it may not be a jug that having boosters increases it. But you have a new toon now, boost up that one's karma

That is the best way to get a lot of karma, just stack up all the karma jugs, then use the booster and drink all of em. I've done this. And it does seem weird that we are allowed to do that. Watch Arena Net just start giving us the karma immediately when we finish the daily achievement.

I don't think the karma boost thing is a bug. I think it's working exactly as intended. Just remember how much karma you actually need to get a legendary weapon, and you'll understand why it's there.
